Selling a Car

Which places are best to advertise a car for sale?

It's nothing special, just a Corsa.

I'd thought of Autotrader-online and Ebay, but Ebay seems so expensive especially if you have a reserved price.

Any other suggestions.

    Autotrader
    Gumtree
    Pistonheads
    Corsa / Vauxhall forums
eBay - Classified adds are £13 including final value fee. Or BIN with best offer as most of the time somebody will come to look at it and offer you a price so you sell off eBay and cancel the auction.

    depends on your conurbation
if you live on a busy road and you price the corsa reasonably you could sell it from your drive
if you live in the back of beyond and you price it reasonably then you need autotrader

    Thanks guys.
Autotrader seems a good bet, although with something as common as a Corsa there are pages and pages of them.
It's 7 years old so I don't think it would be particularly attractive to specialists on a Vauxhall forum.

How do the classified ads or BIN work? I've not used ebay before.

a BIN is just a buy it now price so they're just for sale ads rather than auctions, it's pretty much like a classified advert as well so i'm not sure why they have them both.

Thanks SG - I'll have a good look at ebay and maybe advertise a few other things first to get used to it.

Hopefully I'll be able to sell it privately at work or home before I need to pay to advertise it.

Ebay is about the cheapest to advertise on. Auction with a good starting price is about £8 plus your FVF. Classfied ad on ebay as mentioned around £13. Compare that with £44 for an autotrader ad its much cheaper.
Have you checked your local paper for the classifieds and see what they charge.

That happens where ever you advertise it, its called sods law lol. Everytime I have sold a car the calls slowly trickle in maybe a call every 2 or 3 days. Once the damn thing is sold you can be sure you will get 2-3 calls a day lol.

  • I bemoan of idiots putting adverts up on Autotrader with 1 or 2 photos. Are they really that stupid ?

People want to see 9 photos, perhaps a video but they don't want 9 photos of the outside from 30 yards away. Get decent photos.

Put up the service history, any paperwork you have, what the tyres are like, the last service, work you have had done, advisories on the last MOT etc.

If you do all that and have a decent price then it will walk off your drive.
