    Not sure if you fully understand what linux is - it's an operating system that you would use instead of windows, not with windows.

    You can use both on one machine.

    Well, you can run Linux within Windows, or Windows within Linux, or run both at the same time in separate virtual machines within something else.

    VMS if you're that way inclined...

    so i think i got it half right.either i could use windows or i could swop over and use linux instead,but only use either one at the time,yeah?(well thats if it was installed)is it any safer than windows,
    i am sorry if i make it sound confusing that down to my dyslexia,but its not all gibberish ,thankyou for trying to explain all this xx

    think maybe i should read up a bit more before i go looking to install it just in case i do end up with a big mess-up,i would be lost without the use of a computer even though i dont know to much and being inquisitive can sometimes mess up to,like curiosity killing the cat xxcheers all xxx

    That's pretty much it, for most users, most of the time, you use either linux or windows. It is possible to have both set up so when you switch on your machine you can choose which you use, but if you're feeling untechnical, I don't think Linux has too much to offer you. In some ways it is safer, yes, but it does help to be a bit computer savvy at times, and Windows isn't unsafe unless you spend a lot of time downloading and installing stuff from dodgy websites!!
