    Morning all,

Re, the parents, it would be nice if a superficial tidy did the trick but it never seems to. The thing is, she doesn't really say anything but I'll turn round and she'll be cleaning something

Lizzie - glad you went to the counselling, hope they get back to you soon. Please don't feel like you can't talk to people like WA, they are very experienced in dealing with people in all situations - I think sometimes there can be a sort of stereotype that you have to have a black eye etc before it can be classed as abuse but there are lots of different types and constantly putting someone down and damaging their self-esteem I would definately class as a form of abuse. As LL and her friend's stories show, we don't know what is round the corner so we have to try and make the most of today and be able to enjoy our lives while we can. Sorry if that sounds a little preachy, :o am just thinking about you x Oh and good luck with assignment!

Bratz - the burlesque night sounds fab, would love to try something like that, I bet it's a real confidence boost. Your night out outfit sounds lovely, am sure fiance, biased or not, was right and you looked fab! I'm actually just got a free sample through for the new Garnier BB cream so am going to try that this week I think. Though if I like it will probably look for a cheaper brand :)

Callisto - so sorry your holiday was a bit of a let-down, your uncle sounds very selfish - I really don't understand people who want to go away just to do nothing, surely they could do that at home? Good luck with the assignment, what course is it you're doing again?

Lolly - what an annoying day! Feel free to rant away, we all need it sometimes. Hope today is going a bit better :)

LL - I have to admit was tearing up at your post. It is so very true that we never know what is around the corner and while we might moan a lot about the little things, in the grand scheme of things they aren't really important and we should be grateful for the things, and more importantly the people, we have. Oh and don't worry about having a few lazy days (though your lazy days still sound more productive then mine!), I know you're thinking of OH's respite as a chance to get things done but remember is also a chance for you to have a break and your body to recover a little so try not to overdo it x

Well, didn't go to portrait class yesterday but had a fairly productive evening, put a few loads of washing on with all the sheets and things for the spare beds in preparation for weekend. Also managed to get some more scribbles done, with something that I might be able to work up for my assignment, so feeling a bit more positive there. I actually feel quite creative at the moment, which I haven't done for a while :) Am actually debating whether to skip choir as well tonight and do more writing but will see how I feel later on. Not much on the fab front as was going to do a decent condition on my hair last night but ended up getting a bit too late. Have ordered some cute vintage style necklaces from Amazon though, hope they come soon!

Would she like to come and visit me for a few days.:rotfl::rotfl:

Sorry pp I didn't mean to upset you or anyone else for that matter. I do hope that I don't come over all preachy.

I know we all must have a little rain in our lives at times - it's just that if some of you can learn from my experiences and thus make your own problems and stresses easier to deal with - then mine and OH's suffering will perhaps serve some useful purpose.

It's like when I try to teach the boys about money management, especially DS2 who is just like me when I was age - a spendthrift with more money than sense. I say to them - "Learn from me, learn from my mistakes - do it the easy way, not the hard way like I did".

It's so easy sometimes to forget to live "in the now". Of course we need to plan for the future but sometimes we spend so much time fretting over what may or may not come to pass that we forget to appreciate today.

The past is yesterday and the future is tomorrow, enjoy today.

    Lesson over.:rotfl::rotfl:

This morning I was up at the crack of dawn - had a leisurely coffee, set to and finished painting the hall, gave the kitchen a good wash down, blitzed the fridge - then second breakfast whilst watching "Homes Under the Hammer". Property !!!!!! is my guilty secret:D.

Had a quick potter in the garden, disposing of the tomato plants etc. Now off for a nice soak in the bath, a spot of lunch then off to visit OH.

DS2 will be working late again so no need to rush back. Will probably have a little nap when I do get home.

Just had to cut my nails, so will give them a mini-manicure and a coat of polish, a quick eyebrow tidy and a good slathering.

By the way DS2 was unsuccessful with his job interview.:(

However, he's been asked to do a wedding - not as the main photographer but as a roving eye - taking some casual shots throughout the day. He's dead chuffed.

I'm really pleased for him because he's a bit lacking in confidence so this should give him a bit of a boost.

I still have plans to set up my bric-a-brac stall at some point next year so I will display his work at the same time. It might help him a little.

Anyway - time for that bath.

Have a good day everyone X

We have some lovely photos taken by our roving photographer last year - usually the relaxed natural shots after the paid-for chap had moved onto his next victims! He also took some of the interior of the reception room, the chandeliers, the table settings, the cake, guests arriving etc etc.

podperson - I also had a sample of the garnier cream and one thing I will say is it's not a proper BB cream at all - it's just a tinted moisturiser. It was also quite orange on me (I'm pale) despite getting the light one so wasn't impressed, but hopefully it will be better for you.
I got mine on Amazon for £14 inc posting (to N.I which can be more) so if you want to PM me I can give you the details on the seller etc.

Right ladies, I need some help.....

I've just bought this but what do I wear on my legs & feet? Was thinking black opaques or even footless tights & platforms....however, I will probably need to buy shoes as I only have black patent which I thought might be a bit too much with the sequins? Also, what about a bag....do I go to match my shoes, or gold to pick out the gold sequins? HELP!!!!!

Oooh I LOVE it floss :D
Personally I'd wear it with black opaque tights and well I'd just HAVE to buy some new shoes. I'd buy black shoes, maybe with an accent to match the dress if I could. I get a bag to go with the dress but then again I have no idea about these things so maybe I am not the best person to advise :o

    Fab dress, Floss

I think black opaques, black shoes - I think patent would be ok although a suede or fabric would look good with some sort of embellishment to match the dress. A little clutch bag - I think either black or gold would be good.

Is it for somewhere special - just being nosey - don't mind me:rotfl:

Not much news here tonight - except I have to confess I've been having severe attacks of the munchies the last few days - plus the headache from hell.

Going to go to bed in a minute and try and sleep it off.

Went to see OH today - damn me he's gone and broken the portable DVD player he took in to the nursing home.

Will pop into ASDA tomorrow and get a replacement - probably just a normal full size one. I think the portable was a bit small and fiddly for him. Actually - technically it was mine - not that it matters. I used to use it when flying.

I think I might see if I can get my flu jab whilst I'm there. I can't be bothered faffing around waiting for a nurse's appt at the surgery. Probably wait for weeks anyway:rotfl:

I'd rather just pay for it and get it done at my convenience. I think ASDA, Boots and quite a few pharmacies do them for around £10. Might even manage a little mooch round a couple of charity shops whilst I'm at it.:D

Meant to say to you Lizzie - well done with getting to grips with counsellors etc.

Second the advice to go to WA. Abuse doesn't have to be "just" physical - it can be emotional, verbal or even just the "silent treatment". It's all about domination and control.

I hope you don't mind me saying this - because I mean it in the best possible way. The problem with this controlling behaviour, is that it can escalate over time.

I'm not saying that this will definitely happen to you but it is often a feature of dominant personality disorders - the more they are allowed to get away with this kind of behaviour, the more they do it. My father is a prime example.

I have a friend who is in the process of divorcing her husband - after something like 36 years of marriage.

He was a very domineering man - didn't like her friends so she couldn't really keep in touch with them, (including me). He believed he was "too good" for her family - all that kind of thing. Every decision was his, where they lived, going out with only his friends - always people who might be an "advantage" to him because he was such a social climber.
Even his own father called him an insufferable snob.

He never had friends for friendship sake - only for what he perceived as their "usefulness" to further his career or enhance his social standing.

Now that he is retired - the "friends" have deserted him and he faces a very bleak and lonely old age, having also alienated his daughters and grandchildren. It is very sad and I do feel sorry for him - although to be fair - it is poetic justice.

I always knew most of this but obviously couldn't do anything about it - although I often felt like giving him the sharp end of my tongue. What I didn't know was, that after many years of emotional blackmail and verbal abuse, it did eventually progress to some physical violence.

Fortunately my friend eventually snapped and got rid of him - after he tried to put the blame on her saying she was mentally ill:eek: I think that was her final wake up call.

He tried to threaten her by saying he would have her sectioned. Luckily she finally had the good sense to call the police who didn't accept his "diagnosis". They had some very good people who were enormously helpful to my friend.

Anyway - best of luck Lizzie. Hope you find a way out of your dilemna - just take good care of yourself.

Time for bed - sleep well x

Thanks LL, I've got a gold bag & a couple of pairs of patent shoes, so I will try it all together tomorrow night.

I'm going on a girls spa-break in a few weeks, and we're all "dressing for dinner"....and I will also wear it for my works Christmas party in December, and probably on New Year's Eve too!

    Morning :hello:

I've spent the past few days working on that Christmas card - I had no idea how difficult it'd be to work a company name into a design. Still, I finished it yesterday :j Just hope they like it.

Actually I spent most of yesterday chatting to friends and putting the world to rights :D

So everything has taken a back seat since saturday. I've spent the past of couple of hours catching up with the washing, have sorted the rubbish and recycling and cleaned the kitchen. I'll have a shower in a mo and clean the bathroom at the same time. Just a few days with no exercise and my muscles have stiffened up so I'll get back to that today.

floss2 I can't see the dress :( The site is down for maintenance. I've just writted down 'frugal frump, floss dress, post 1519' :D I'll try again later and hope the link hasn't been changed.
