Faulty Sat Nav. Who to contact?

I've got a Navigon Sat Nav and for the past month or so it seems like the power connection is loose because if you move the sat nav, it goes off or stops charging.

The sat nav is just over a year old (was purchased in May 2010) so we're just wondering whether we're still entitled to return it to Halfords (where we bought it from) and if so, do we need to provide the receipt or will they have record of the sale (we still have the box, etc and possibly the receipt but not 100% sure).

Your first call should be to Halfords.

You may need to provide some proof of purchase.
Clearly a receipt is best, but a credit card statement of bank statement, if appropriate, will do.

Did it come with a guarantee, and how long for?

I don't think you will have a come back on this, unless you can prove it to be faulty as it is over 6 months old.

According to the Navigon website it has 2 year guarantee with it. The fact that when it's plugged in to the cigarette lighter, moving the sat nav switches it off or stops it charging should surely be proof enough.

In that case, I think you should definitely be going back to Halfords with it to see what they say.

A receipt is ideal, as that is proof of purchase. However - if you can provide a bank statement showing when it was deducted, they may then be able to locate a copy of the receipt on their systems.

Thanks. I just phoned halfords and they said to pop in with the sat nav and they'll take a look. They said if the cable is faulty they will provide a new cable, however, they didn't say what they'd do if it was the sat nav that's faulty.

In a way, it's nice to hear it happened to someone else as it shows it's possible that it's a common issue. Will do a bit of research now :)

Your fist cal should be the the retailer, but they may refer you to the manufacturer, based on the two year guarantee. This may be the best option for you. However, if the manufacturer does not give you a satisfactory outcome, your contract is with Halfords and they are liable to for the repair under the guarantee they gave you with the product.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Found the receipt last night and it had a bit stapled to it saying the sat nav is covered for 12 months, however, on the Navigon website, it says 2 years. Should I remove the stapled bit and print off the section from their website?

No, you could try Halfords, however the second year of the warranty is provided by the manufacturer if Halfords can't help contact them, removing the details attached to the reciept won't help.
