HTC Desire - Low Space

Hi
I have had my Desire since end July last year and have had no problems with it really, only wee hiccups.
However I seem to be getting 'low space' notification daily, I have everything that can be moved onto SD Card and hardly anything is on phone. I have deleted my messages, internet history, internet cashes, internet cookies etc but still getting it daily.
Can anyone help?

I don' think there is any solution that will work perfectly.
See here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1535080
It could be app (like being suggested in that article) which is using up more and more space. Factory reset might keep things chugging along till it grows full again. Others seemed to be talking about hacking the firmware - at your own peril.0 -
I have upgraded to a Desire HD mainly for this reason, it's just too small the internal memory. The only option really would be to root it, then you can move everything acrossHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0

you have an option without rooting, called the sdk method. see tutorials for the sdk method or the rooting method or the different roms method on the following links

see other tutorials on the above website.

hope this helps you find the solution. i am in the same boat and using the same tutorials, but may root and instal cyanogenmod7 or oxygen roms, havent made up my mind yet.
ps: in the application settings menu, select manage applications then sort them by size, that way you can identify the culprit apps and delete them if their size differs from the size mentioned in the market description. Some apps like the absolutely crap 'neilson' market analysis app that pays you for providing market usage data stay on the internal memory and keep bloating up with data till phone becomes unusable. i had installed this app and deleted it.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
Same issue here, I previously had it rooted and after a few months I started getting these messages even after moving every app I could to the SD so it's not really a long term soloution unless you want to install 3rd party firmware.
I'm back to the factory firmware now, non rooted and I've only got 8 apps on my SD (flash [11.96MB], facebook [5.98MB], maps [10.67MB], gmail [4.79MB], market [3.54MB], youtube [1.3MB], streetview [596KB] and call track [72KB]) and I just cleared my cache and I only have 15.14MB free and whenever I get to around 15MB the low space messages start and Android automatically stops syncing which is a pain in the !!!. Wiping the phone and starting fresh helps for a few months (even if you reinstall all the same apps), but for some reason the free space just seems to disappear with time.
HTC have just announced they're releasing Gingerbread for the Desire so I'm going to give that a go when it's released and if that doesn't help I'll explore 3rd party ROMs.0 -

Just rooting does nothing. You would need app2sd+ etc or different Rom like cyanogenmod7 which does this for you or you would need roms like oxygen that have a small foot print on internal memory and release about 300 mb for apps instead of the 147mb available on stock Rom. If you have a network branded ROM you will have lesser free space than stock Rom.
Anyway you seem to be doing something wrong, as what you say above does not add up. On a stock Rom none of the apps you have mentioned can be moved to SD card like you have mentioned. I have all these apps and loads loads more and have 103 icons in my app tray presently on my stock HTC desire unrooted and I have about 14mb left. Looks like some of your apps are storing too much data on internal memory or are using too much cache memory. You can clear cache for each app individually VIA application setting menu or do it automatically VIA app like app2sd move.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

I meant to say those apps are the only apps on my internal memory and at present my phone is showing 15.06MB free of 150.75MB so I'm not sure why I have so little space. Some apps are storing quite a bit of data (facebook seems guilty of it), but even using apps to clear cache or doing it manually I still run out
I work with another 3 HTC Desire users and they've all experienced the same low disk space messages despite using App2SD.
I think the Desire is a great phone, HTC make great phones in general, but I think both the Desire and the Desire S (slightly lesser so) would be so much better if they had a little extra space.0 -
I take it clearing the data from the apps has been done too- I do it occasionally after I got to low space.0

When my yahoo app used to get bloated with data. I would use the manage applications menu and delete the bloated applications data. Then relogin VIA the app, then the app downloads only the last few days worth of mails. Try doing the same with your mail and Facebook apps or any apps that are bloated with data. You can find the app and data size VIA the application management menu. Hope this helps.
Yes I know all HTC phones have low internal memory compared to the competition, including the HTC sensation that has lower internal memory than a year old Samsung galaxy s. That's why I will stay away from HTC till the put in decent internal memory and buy the Samsung galaxy s2 in a few months unless better phones are released in the meantime. In meantime may use other roms like cyanogenmod7 or oxygen if I find time to do it.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
The Facebook app, which you cant uninstall, caches endlessly until it uses up all your space. This is particularly bad if you look at photo albums. Make sure to clear that completely. You may have to disable the account and re-enter it.
Also if you have email synced make sure it isnt storing more than a couple of weeks of emails, otherwise it'll be trying to download every email you've ever had which will use up the Desire's pitiful internal memory in no time.0
