Missing Cat!!

Hi, I'm just hoping maybe I can get some advice on here or someone could suggest something I haven't tried.
My cat went missing on 23rd March, He was an indoor cat, and not yet neutered or chipped as we were meant to be moving soon. My neighbour went out for a cigarette and left the door open and he went out.

I walked the streets every night looking for him for nearly 2 weeks, asked neighbours to check sheds etc, I have put up missing posters with his photo, I put soiled litter of his in the garden hoping the smell would guide him back, i have put an add in the paper, i have contacted cats protection, vets, road cleansing dept, at a loss as of what to do now. :(
Just a couple of days ago i found a message online on cpl, describing a cat that was very much like him, spoke to the man who had found it and by his description was certain it was my baby! But the cpl coordinator sent me photo's and it was nothing like him.
Does anyone have any suggestions to anything else I could try?? At my wits end here.

Thank you Nikki702, I haven't registered him on those sites because not many people up here know of them or use them. I have however been checking them along with all the cpl sites in my area. I'm getting further afield now as the cat that sounded like him was 150 miles away!

I have now registered him with both sites. Just realised my reply sounded like I was dismissing you. Sorry!

Ohhh no, you must be so worried.

Please don't give up hope - one of my friends cats went missing for 5 months and she came back one night and she was curled up on her bed wondering what all the fuss was about.

You've done all the right things so far that I can see - have you put missing notices in local shops? Is there a local animal shelter? (only things I could think were missing from your list).

Fingers crossed he's home soon - I came across the following site http://www.catchat.org/lost.html - it has some useful links etc to register lost pets in it (including http://www.cats-reunited.co.uk/) which you've maybe not tried yet.

    Are you on Facebook?

If so have you thought about setting up a group with his description, whereabouts, photos etc. get all your friends to join and ask their friends etc.

    Hope he's found soon.

Thank you! Facebook is one I haven't tried. Local animal shelter I have called, have emailed them to ask if they'll put a notice on their website, which they do regularly, and just got a quite frankly grumpy email back!
Rising from the ashes, was your friends cat used to being outside? I ask because the lovely stories you usually hear are outdoor cats coming home. Just hoping there's as much chance for an indoor cat! Thank for your replies, i'm willing to try anything.

Try putting the contents of your hoover outside somewhere you never know it might just guide kitty home... good luck

She was able to go out if she wanted to (pal has 8:eek: cats and a cat-flap) but she rarely ventured out and never went out of the front garden.

Are there lots of houses/flats around? - it's also possible that someone's found him and has taken him in (while we would all wish our beloved one to be well looked after - we'd much rather have them home or at least know they're safe).

When she did eventually turn up, she'd obviously been looked after by someone (long haired cat & was well groomed).

Sorry to read this. Unfortunately entire males are the most likely to stray as they can travel many miles following a queen's scent, being indoor he is more likely to get lost as everywhere is outside his territory and will smell unfamiliar. If I were you I would widen my search area substantially, contact rescues and vets in other towns. It is worth registering on as many sites as possible, as your cat may end up handed into a rescue or vet who checks them. I don't know if it will make you feel any better but there is a good chance someone has taken him in or will hand him to a rescue as they are fed up of him spraying! My girl was a stray being fed by a friend of a friend, they advertised locally to no effect so without a microchip there is nothing we can do. I feel for the original owners as there is every sign she was well cared for at one time. :(

Thank you all for your replies. I have been checking all rescues in the north east of Scotland, I've registered him on every site I can find, I am attempting to set up a facebook page now. I have posters up, but I am considering visiting or perhaps calling farms in the area. As none have replied to my posters. I have already been trying putting the contents of the hoover out in the garden, having run out of litter tray contents to put out. I think the most likely thing is he's either holed up on a farm impregnating all the females, or someone has taken him in. He never sprayed here, but i'm guessing that now he'll have gotten the scent of females he'll have started! Hopefully if he is spraying in someones house they'll take him to cats protection!
Thank you all for your advice. :A
Do you know of the cheapest way to get posters printed? I was thinking of putting one in every door of the village. Worth a try. Also trying to be money saving, ink for our printer is not cheap.
