EBAY idiot.

Advertised a DVD box set on ebay and stated (very clearly) ***** BOX IS DAMAGED****

Much to my surprise I got an email from the buyer very rudely telling me the box is broken and they are very annoyed at me !?!
The demanded a refund !

I know full well that ebay will automatically side with them so I have told them to send the dvd's back and I will refund the money, do you think I should only refund the DVD cost and NOT the postage I paid ?

I would think there's quite a difference between "damaged" and "broken"...e.g. I can still play a guitar with a damaged neck....but I can't play it if the neck is broken....did your description actually state the extent of the damage and did your photos properly show the damage...

what terms is the buyer quoting...I assume from what you're saying its along the lines of "significantly not as described"....in which case they probably have a good case....depending on what exactly IS the problem, i.e. if you are in the wrong, I would say the postage cost is your loss.
No two ways about this one: Anything Free is not a Basic Right..it had to be earned...by someone, somewhere

Well, as stated, I sold a DVD box set , the box basically has a nice big crack through it .... thats about it , Im not exactly sure why anyone would even care that the case is cracked as it in no way affect the DVDs at all, and yes, I did photograph it and stated *****BOX IS DAMAGED*****

Im unsure how else I can clearly explain that the box is damaged.
  • its a dvd box ....its not like he's sold a car saying "engine needs small attention" then the engine is actually blown
its just a dvd box as long as the dvd's work who cares he described it as damaged its just some goon playing the system . thumbs up ebay!

Tell the buyer to get back in his (damaged) box.

They've probably "ripped" them and now want the refund ;)

I wouldn't refund or anything. The item is as decriibed. A damaged/broken box does not affect the usability of the DVD.

You advised of the problem. In the photo - did it show the problem clearly?

ebays problem these days is they side with the buyer too much , i had someone buy a hockey stick off me and broke it by not doing the job properly , straight to ebay moaning it was broke in the first place when it wasnt , but what chance do i have ? they have the stick (thats broken now) and ebay have the power to refund not the power to bring my stick back to me , everything is too easy to get away with on ebay these days

The buyer has probably copied the discs, and now wants their money back.

Tell him that the item was sold as described, and that you feel in future he\she should learn to read the descriptions of items on sale prior to purchase. That as far as you are concerned, the item was "sold as seen" and as described. You therefore do not feel a refund is warranted.
