Hi
I had this last week.Drove me silly. Luckily I had Google Chrome on my system which it wasnt affecting, and it let me on the internet that way.
It wouldn't let me install anything I downloaded though. System restore didn't work either.. I eventually found a tip which you could try.
Click Start Go to run Type in msconfig enter. This brings up system configeration.
Click Systyems.Ini.
Click Disable.
Try to access the internet now and download malwarebytes and do a full scan. This should find it and take it out.
Enable Systems. Ini again.
It worked for me Hopefully might help.
I have this and nothing will download or work. Only way I have be
en able to get on the net is saying I will upgrade my free avast anti virus and when I get to the internet upgrade page I can then use the net but the pop up boxes all the time from this windows security thing!
When I try and use run as above I just get the pop up box and avast has done a full scan and says nothing found.... any suggestions?
Thanks, Nikki0 -
Many options.
Once the net, down and run this:
http://www.tangosoft.co.uk/re-enable v2.html
then grab MBAM.
Or use SAS and use the repair functions:
http://www.superantispyware.com/sasportable.php
Or follow the troubleshooting on this page
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=85715&st=0&p=434112&#entry434112
Or RIGHT CLICK on icons and Run as Administrator
or use CTRL SHIFT ESCAPE then from Task manager, do File > Run Task0 -
Try the G.Data Fake AV Cleaner. Last download item in the table at the following link:

Thank you so much.
I was able to run this..
http://www.tangosoft.co.uk/re-enable v2.html
The note pad said...
This log file is located at C:\rkill.log.
Please post this only if requested to by the person helping you.
Otherwise you can close this log when you wish.
Rkill was run on 30/06/2011 at 14:38:11.
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP
Processes terminated by Rkill or while it was running:
Rkill completed on 30/06/2011 at 14:39:15.
It would not let me run this...
then grab MBAM.
But it would let me run this...
Or use SAS and use the repair functions:
http://www.superantispyware.com/sasportable.php
which is running now but the infection boxes keep popping up all the time...
it's been running 23 minutes and has so far detected 5 registry items and 37 file items.
Am I doing everything OK?
thanks, Nikki0 -
You're doing fine Nikki, sorry I was out. Let SAS clean whatever it finds, and if you can find a log feel free to post it.
Afterwards, I'd still try to get MBAM running http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=85715&st=0&p=434112&#entry4341120
