XP 2012 Security question

Options
Is this a virus in itself. Has done a scan and found virus'es, worms ect. 26 in total.
Its on my other half's laptop, appeared in the last couple of days but he doesn't know how or where from.

Can delete it, blocks out the internet, add/remove programs, basically anything. Just wants him to buy their product.

Anyone in the know on how to get rid of this. He has free anti-virus on there and has run a scan which showed no virus'es on his lap-top.

many thanks

    It's an infection

    Run rkill

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill

then do a full scan with malwarebytes, fix anything found before closing

The only thing is that it won't let us go online with that lap-top. Keeps going to their page saying protection or something

    Hi

I had this last week.Drove me silly. Luckily I had Google Chrome on my system which it wasnt affecting, and it let me on the internet that way.

It wouldn't let me install anything I downloaded though. System restore didn't work either.. I eventually found a tip which you could try.

Click Start Go to run Type in msconfig enter. This brings up system configeration.
    Click Systyems.Ini.
    Click Disable.

Try to access the internet now and download malwarebytes and do a full scan. This should find it and take it out.
    Enable Systems. Ini again.

It worked for me Hopefully might help.

From other threads on this subject, it might not be completely gone. The usual recommendation is to run Hijackthis and Malwarebytes scans and post the logs on here. Don't do anything with the Hijackthis log but fix anything Malwarebytes finds before posting.
Someone will probably wander over to look at the logs shortly.

I seem to have got rid of all the pop-up boxes but it now won't let me access much - almost everything I try give me a message that the program can't be found, and if I download something it won't install. Any suggestions for me please!?

different type of the £40/£60/£80 malware.

Combofix will clear it out superficially, but you'll need to do a full antivirus scan afterwards.

This one seems to come with proper viruses attached.

Tangosoft do a free tool to repair the after effects of virii like enabling shortcuts on the desktop etc.

    Google for re-enable v2.

I haven't used it, but have been told it does what it says on the tin.
