Help! - Flights to Lisbon this August

Hi everyone

I am looking to book a return direct flight from Manchester to Lisbon this August for a week. (no hotel, just flights) We can travel anytime from Monday the 8th and return at the latest on the 18th. This is for 2 adults and 2 children. I have looked at www.tap.pt site but the cheapest I cound find is £848.76.
As I haven't been abroad for 10 years, I feel at a loss. What sort of price should I be looking at? I've looked at opodo and expedia and I both sites come up with flights over £1000.

Any advice from seasoned travellers would be much appreciated.:)

    Have a look at bmibaby.

That's the height of the school holidays. Could be tricky.

If you are going to be hiring a car and touring then it may be cheaper to fly to Faro and then drive to Lisbon.

If you go to Skyscanner.co.uk you can search the whole month, giving you a bar chart of the cheapest days to fly.

It seems that richardw was correct, and bmibaby may be the best bet. 9th - 16th August seems to be £520. That said, it doesn't include checked in luggage which with bmibaby can add around £40 per head, and then there'll be credit card fees too, all of which will take it nearer the TAP price.

The Faro suggestion may work out well too. Ryanair coming up for £380, although bags and credit card fees would also need to be added.

At that price, have you considered getting a train down to London/Luton and booking a cheap flight from there???

    Thanks for your replies:)

The bmibaby seems good but the flight is 6.55am so check in with two young kids at 3am.... not sure about that!
Will try skyscanner and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the info on credit card fees and other extras which I hadn't accounted for.
