School Logo Coat

They are good coats. Waterproof, warm and not easily destroyed.
The disadvantages I've found is you need to have another coat. I wouldn't take my kids out in them for say a Saturday shopping trip, so with an extra coat it's more expensive, plus you need space to hang 2 up. More than 1 child in the school has one, so very easy to be taken by accident - even if labelled!0 -

Put it somewhere visible!
But Miss, Teacher told me to put one in the pocket only yesterday! :rotfl:
I wonder whether different schools have different conventions then for naming. Ask if they have any tips!
I do think it a good idea to put one obvious name, and another not- so- obvious inside the sleeve or pocket, *just in case* it goes walkies...They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Like Spendless we found the disadvantage being the need for two coats and the fact they only really suited autumn & spring weather, they were much too cold for winter term if you walk to school and back in ice & snow.
I also second the not easily destroyed part too, my DS1 is dyspraxic & takes at least one severe "face-plant" type sprawl a day (at least) and the jacket does hold up to it (jumpers, trousers and knees not so much but the jacket yes!):j BSC #101 :j0 -
My three boys school insists they wear the logo'd jackets, they are not allowed to wear any other coat. This is a high school btw. The jackets cost £45 each!! so with three of them needing them it was reall struggle.
My boys wont wear them and being older boys I can't physically make them like you might a primary age child. So for me personally they are a waste of money.
With regards to the naming, our school has asked us to put the names in between the fleece and the waterproof bit. Kinda hard to explain here. But the jackets are seperate at the bottom, so we roll the waterproof bit back and just write on it. School then knows where to look for the name.0 -
Shelldean, that's a lot to shell out for unworn coats, can you sell them back to the school when they leave?
Thanks for the tip, i'm undecided but we have our first taster session tomorrow and i'll be buying some logo'd stuff then. I was thinking would a school coat be practical for the middle of winter and where would i write his name if its reversible. I might get last years coat out of the loft and see how it fits, its age 4-5 and was on the big side last year.
Am I allowed to admit to being excited about it all and at the same time sad that my little lad is off to school and ill only see him properly at weekends and evenings. He's ready despite complaints of "I dont want to go to nursery ALL the time", he goes 3 days a week - wait until 5 days then lad!0 -
I have one going up to reception in September too (he's our 4th) and I'm excited for him! We're currently in the practicing zips and shoes phase getting him ready.:j BSC #101 :j0

Both my children have them and I think they're great, especially for the primary years.
Really practical, incredibly hard wearing (still look good after several years) and cheap enough that they have another non-school coat too. I appreciate that this is completely unnecessary and thus not really money saving, but in general, I like clothing distinctions and for some reason, they've always tended to have a couple of winter coats for varying weather/overall clothing situations.0 -
I've always bought mine a normal coat. They can wear it at weekends and stuff and it's easier to find in a pile on the cloakroom floor

I did buy school jumpers for my eldest when he first started, but I found them to be poor quality and more expensive than shop bought ones. I just bought plain shop bought ones after that.
My daughter currently has a waterproof coat with a fleece lining. At the moment she's either wearing the waterproof bit or the fleece bit or not at all depending on the weather! In the winter she was nice and snug with both bits zipped together. I got it cheap on the Regatta Outlet site as it was the previous seasons style :money:Here I go again on my own....0 -
I love the ones for our primary school - fleece one side and waterproof the other. Great for when the weather is not freezing, but cold enough and for rain showers. My DS wore his at the WE when he had a korfball tournament and it was worth its weight in gold as it was very showery! They aren't that expensive either - very practical. I also get a proper winter coat for the proper winter!0

I help at a Primary School some lunchtimes. I would say unless every child has a school coat with a school badge on it don't waste your money.
1 - It's a battle even get the children to wear coats in the first place at playtimes.
2 - There is a lot of coat pulling from tag or even just getting a friends attention in a noisy playground.
3 - Don't put a name tag in the pocket. Put it where it is really visible. At the moment the weather is changeable, at the end of lunch we can collect an armful or jumpers and cardi's left on the field as the children have got warm and put them down. The children themselves read the labels to see if it's there's too, not just the grown ups. You are really likely to lose something if the tag is not clearly visible to all ages.
4 - Gloves. Have them on a long string that thread through both arms. If they are there they will wear them and not come home saying they have lost one.0
