School Logo Coat

Our son starts reception this september and i've been pondering over whether to buy one of those reversible weatherproof/fleece school logo coats.

Would you say they were worth it or is my money better spent elsewhere?

One concern was were to put the name tag.

Thanks.

Not sure whether I'd buy the coat myself, but with regard to the name tag, I'd just sew it at the bottom of the coat, running vertically along the joining seam. That's probably the least obvious place to put it.

They are really practical. Not too bulky, they don't take up too much space, the child can still play in them and be reasonably warm. We thought it was a good investment. DD has another coat for 'best' and a proper ski coat for winter which is similar in that it has a fleecy innard as well.

All the kids at her school wear them with the raincoat on the outside, all the time. So we've simply ironed the tags on in the usual place.

Another good place for the name tape is in the pockets.

  • Some of them have a little tag inside the pocket too- you can sew/ taggit the nametape onto that.
I didn't have one for DD but am thinking it may be worth it for DS.

Logo stuff was the biggest waste of money I ever spent. Cost me well over 150 quid when my son started F2 (reception). Jumpers got pinched, shirts got ruined, and the coats got ripped during play time.
I know every parent wants their child to look smart but it was such a waste that now I buy tesco stuff and I am less bothered if something gets wrecked or goes walk abouts!
Pockets are good for name tags though if its a coat and fleece dont forgot to put one in each :D

and copydex is excellent for gluing nametapes into pumps/plimsolls/shoes

it still astounds me, in a primary school with uniform, how many parents DON"T clearly name their childs clothes - then expect us to be able to find the lost tops/trousers/plimsolls - they ARE ALL THE SAME!

some schools (ours included) sells second hand stuff...try the school summer fair!

Both of my children have had the school jackets, I found them to be good vfm and the oldest's was still in good enough condition for the smaller one when it fitted him. They look smart, and it saves any "good" clothes getting ruined. I also buy a ski jacket for the winter, and the two have been fine for schoolwear (the skijacket also gets used in the bad weather for casual)

I like the school coats, and ours are the same. Very practical, lightweight, warm, but 50 kids spilling out of the doors wearing them and you can't pick yours out of the crowd. Pick a similar style of coat, but in a bright or different colour. And I write names on the inside of the collar in a Sharpie marker. Easily spotted it it goes home with the wrong child.

But school staff don't have time to forensically examine items for labels!
