eBay Buyer Moan

Not a particularly major issue, but still irritating non-the-less!!

  • Buyer uses buy now.
  • 1 week later emails 'sorry ordered wrong item'.
  • I respond asking if they want me to update the invoice for the different item or cancel the transaction.
  • No response for further 2 weeks dispite a second attempt to contact them.
  • Open NPB to get ebay fees back.
  • Buyer leaves negative feedback 'unhelpful seller'.
After contacting ebay they won't remove the feedback as having paid for the item is not part of the criteria for leaving feedbacl. And to make it worse i'm pretty sure they gave 1-star in the detail seller ratings, including the 'dispatch time' and 'PP charges'.

ARGHHH!

eBay are a joke at times.

Did they pay or not pay? You say you opened NPB but then say you could not remove feedback due to payment.

    No they didn't.

By the second part I mean.... I asked ebay if it was possible to have it removed as it doesn't seem fair a non-paying buyer being able to leave negative feedback. They said it doesn't meet their criteria fo removing feeback :(

eBay is a dinosaur market, get onto the likes of Amazon. Sure you will get idiot customers as you will anywhere but in situations like this, Amazon will sort it there and then without all the hassle Paypal cause.

I thought non-paying bidders could not leave feedback.

As the case been closed by you yet?

    Thats what I thought.

Yes the case was closed, the buyer has 1 strike on his account, fees have been refunded to my account.

Contacting ebay I asked why it was a non paying bidder can leave negative feedback against a seller, including the DSRs but yet a seller cannot leve negative feedback against the buyer... they explained feedback allows buyers to review sellers about all aspects of a transaction and to review a seller there is no requirement that the buyer must have made payment for the item.

    Its crazy!

I thought you can leave a response to their feedback?

Did you email them and get an annoying pre-prepared response or use live chat or the phone. This is clearly retaliation for reporting him to ebay - how can that be fair?

In all cases of NPB i have had though - ebay have blocked feedback from the buyer. From reading up on ebay help - i gather he responded to the claim - which could be why he is then allowed to leave feedback.

Stinks though - just like most things Ebay do against decent sellers.

It was Live Chat. I know what you mean about the automated responses via email though.

There isn't a way of replying to a NPB claim though, its simply 'Has buyer paid?' 'yes or no' 'close case'. The case has to be open for 4 days which the buyer can pay though.

You can leave a response to feedback -- but it doesn't help maintaining a decent DSR rating though.

I've always liked ebay dispite the fact they ten to be biased towards the buyer in most cases -- but very quickly going off them! Maybe my £250/month would be better spent elsewhere hmmm

Did they leave feedback before the case closed then? As soon as i close a case - a line goes through the buyers feedback star and it says 'resolution proces as prevented buyer leaving feedback'.

    I would email directly now;-

I'd chose the feedback manipulation option.

Point out that the buyer retaliated because you used the NPB procedure and surely you should be allowed to use an EBAY procedure without fear of feedback manipulation from someone who could not even be bothered to pay.

I've never had a neg - but i've always assumed they could be removed if unfairly given. Ebay made a promise to that effect on BBC's watchdog.

No they left feedback after the case was closed.

Its interesting you say that -- maybe they have changed procedure? Or theres a bug?

I think I will drop them a line or two about the 'feedback manipulation' :)
