If you're getting something by moving the cable then it seems that either the cable is faulty, or the socket in the equipment nearest to the wiggle is defective in some way.

Have you tried a different SCART cable?

Have a Maplins down the road so will go buy a new scart but the same scart works without issue in the old CRT TV I use so I think problem is the new TVs as it only happens on the 2 identical sets in the childrens rooms.
  • did you ever get to the bottom of this, as i seem to be having the same issue?

logik dvd/tv combo worked with an old matsui vcr no problem for a year.

I introduced a sky box and now when i switch on the vcr it briefly sees the video picture then says scart "no signal".

I took the sky box out and still have the same issue.

I reset the tv to factory settings and still the same issue.

The vcr and scart lead work on every other tv in the house.
So not the lead or the vcr.

The scart lead and the sky box still work on the logik tv
So not the Logik tv scart socket itself.

    Confused

    the scart standard is ambiguous...

the scart plugs and sockets are all universal in size and shape, but the standard supports two different methods of signalling, and they are not compatible..

scart can be used to transfer composite video as well as component video (RGB)

those two different standards mean that it's possible to have a scart cable that is wired to work for component video but it won't work with a composite signal, and vice versa. The better scart cables are wired to support both standards.

the type of signal (composite or component video) generated by an appliance can be different. Component video better suits modern digital technologies, such as video game consoles, whereas composite video is more common on technologies like VHS.

so try feeding the TV using the same cable, but with a signal from a different appliance.

scart cables can also be 'ended'.. in which case, the signal can only be fed from one end..

so try swapping the ends of the cable...

where did you get the cable? was it supplied with the idiot box?
Not actually correct. Yes there are two different types of Scart but one has both Composite and RGB of which RGB gives the better quality and the other type has Composite and S-Video. The later type is frequently used on VHS videos and gives lower quality than RGB. Composite on either Scart type is one of the lowest qualities available, 2nd only to RF (modulated Aerial type connections).

Yes, Scart connections/Cables can have direction because they have both inputs and outputs for some of the connections, although this doesn't affect RGB.

    If it's available, use RGB.
