Are you on Virgin cable for your phone & internet?...If you're on cable for your phone,then you CANNOT havr any bband on the phoneline due to how a cable phoneline works.
If you're not on cable,who is your provider?
You need to go to WWW.SAMKNOWS.COM & see what DSL (Phone based LLU services) you have in your exchange,Sounds to me like Talk Talk are on about the non LLU services.0 -
Hi,
I don't have cable... Virgin Media is my provider for calls and broadband. Talk Talk told me over the phone today that because Virgin Media have "scrambled" my line i would not be able to get a cheap broadband package from any other provider now. I dont understand how that works. I was cut-off before i could get a full explanation... maybe that was an omen!!
Thanks i'll look into non LLU services.0 -
Right,I think the person was talking out of his b u m.If the are LLU services in your exchange,chances are TT aren't one of them so he was referring to their services,It's quite complicated,some providers who fully LLU your phone & bband won't let you get bband from anyone else unless you take the phone back to BT. (TTalk is one of them)
However,I wouldn't touch TTalk with a 1000ft bargepole even if they paid me!0 -
It says my exchange has no LLU operator presence.
Is it possible that Talk Talk were trying to get me to pay more for a new calls & BB package?0 -

Sorry I don't get this.
Virgin use there own cables and lines.
I have two white boxes in my living room. One is for BT and one is for virgin.
I use virgin for landline and broadband so have my phone connected to the virgin box.
So if I want to change phone line and my broadband I have to go back to a BT line.
So not sure what talk talk where talking about. As far as I am aware no one else apart from virgin can use there cables and lines.
Look here half way down it says about about switching to and from cable broadband.

Virgin have 2 types of service.
Virgin cable.
Virgin National.
Virgin Cable;
Virgin cable does not connect to a BT exchange.An install crew come & run a siamese drop cable,which is combined phone & coaxial cables joined, from the VM street cabinet (DP) to your home.From the VM street cabinet,a Copper cable for the tv/bband & a multi-pair cable for the phone runs to a couple of larger boxes,called the Mux/DA. There it switches to Fibre Optic cable which then runs to a VM Head End or Hub Site.These can be many miles away from your home,sometimes as much as 75miles.It is after reaching the Hub Site/Head End,the phone joins the BT network & the BBand connects to the Internet.
You cannot have BBand on the phone with this service & therfore need to have a BT line connected in your home. No one else can use these lines.You do not need a MAC code to move to/from this service.
Virgin National;
Works exactly the same as any other Phone/broadband service. (BT/Sky/O2 ect) & any other provider can use these.MAC codes are required to switch bband providers &,in the case of the phone,a return to donor, may be required before you can change suppliers.
If you have one of these boses in your home,you have CABLE Bband.This is what your TV/BBand connects to;0
