help - getting confused!

Options
Hi All

So.. I am moving house next week. I am currently with O2 for broadband but they do not provide for where I am moving to - gutted!

I have BT landline at the mo and have looked into other broadband providers but am not very impressed.

I have already put a moving house order through with BT but it looks like I will be better changing to someone who does line rental/broadband package but I dont know if they provide in the area and I dont have the landline number to ask? (i ahve the one BT gave me for the one they are setting up but I dont know if I can use this)

I dont know what to do....
How can I find the best deal when I dont have the landline number yet? also, if I cancel the order I have put through with BT, will they disconnect the landline? as I am unsure who it was activated with.

I am getting confused looking through confused sites and trying to find the best deals.
aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

Thanks
Louise

Step 1 Enter postcode or town here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
let us know whats available preferably LLU for starters on lower right

As you've already requested a transfer with BT your new line will be with them.
What minimum term have you agreed?
  • 12 months. i can still cancel though. but worried they will deactivate the line if i do.

    website says this

If you cancel then the line wont be activated and you may be charged a cancellation fee by Bt depending on how long before its activated
You can still use another broadband/calls supplier with BT line

If O2 cant provide its either their kit is full or you are too far from the exchange, may be worth trying Sky as they can install a new line too
  • The line was activated before I rang for the home move. I don't know who with but it was.

Bt line doesnt change over until next Friday they said. So could I stop this. Maybe if I said I wasn't moving anymore? Would the line still become deactivated even if it wasn't activated with Bt?

I've looked at broadband deals having a Bt line and they don't look very good. I can't believe O2 can't do it. They said it's because there kit is full. Could this become unfull????

Is 60gb download a lot? There's one with plusnet I think it is. I wanted unlimited download though.

    Thanks for your help

Most ADSL is delivered over a BT line. Some ISPs will take over the billing and some will completely unbundle it but the line is still maintained by BT Openreach in all cases (apart from Kingston on Hull).

You may as well take the BT line as I'm assuming they are not charging to commision it but others might. It will not limit your choice of ISP by much at all.

If it's a cabled area then you wouldn't need a phone at all.

O2 offer LLU on your exchange but it's currently full. No way of knowing if that will change or not.

They'd normally offer O2 Access if their kit is full up but I expect that the OP regularly exceeds the 40GB fair use cap on that and O2 can see that in their records.
  • They offered me access but it's expensive and I am after unlimited downloads.

There is some leads in my new house that might change the choices. There is an adsl filter lead in the downstairs toilet??? And a sky tv lead is fitted. or cable if it's the Same lead??

I'm not good with stuff like this. I was thinking of orange broadband but haveread bad reviews. My iPhone showed someone near had sky broadband. Bt line gets installed Friday. I need broadband arranging then and I have no idea what to get.

    Can anyone advise please?

    Thanks

Sky TV has nothing to do with broadband, you don't have to be a TV subscriber to get it. if Sky was installed, they'll be a sat dish on the other end of the cable unless they've taken it with them. Are you in a VM cable area?
Any other broadband than VM will require a BT landline.
