I have the Natwest step account and rate it very highly. The current plus account is a full account with the possibilty of having forms of credit in the future Ie overdrafts etc. The step account is classed as a current account but without the borrowing.
    It takes two to tango!:rotfl:

thanks cool your helpful as ever how do you know so much about the different current accounts ?

so will i get the 2% cashback when using the card ?

I did ask if the debit card was in real time and would it show the available balance and she didn't seem to know.

My parents bank with halifax and the available balance always reflects if something has just been purchased.
  • There is not many banks that I have not been with ;)

And yup, the good news is you will get the cashback as long as you meet the requirements listed at:

    http://www.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/g2/cashback-terms.ashx?coid=NWEST_HP3_NW_PERS_TC_HP_ROW2_Current_accounts_MAY1&DCMP=ILC-PersHPLgQ3BnrCshBkTsCs

If you use Online Banking you will notice as soon as you make a transaction this will appear in the list and will also reduce your available balance in real time also.

Yes, almost every bank's system works like this. The only systems I know that don't update in real time is The Co-Operative's and Smile's.

thanks cool and jack it looks like the natwest is the one i'll be using on a regular basis i'll just fund the cashminder a set amount and have one or two direct debits come out of that thus i don't need to keep adding up my purchases and i'll still get green ticks each month.

thanks again for all your help :-)

well today i got my cashminder card through the post and i've setup the online banking its looks quite basic but i'm sure it will do

I also got several texts from natwest informing me that my debit card would be sent out along with the pin and online banking information in the next 48 hrs. I was dreading the AVU unit that i've read so much about recently. Does this mean i've past or is there still time for them to decline me.

I think the AVU are quite quick in that respect to close accounts down, so it's been a few days now.. OK I don't want to say yes but I gather you should be fine at this stage.

I don't want to scare you but give it a week or so tops, people HAVE had the PIN & Debit Cards sent and then it has been closed.

Set-up Online Banking with them and if the account still appears once you log in for the first time, you should be fine by this stage I would have thought.

Indeed, in niddy's case he had the service card and pin through then a letter to say "Actually, nah".

I also had the AVU decline an initially-approved application, that was after receiving the confirmation pack with my account number and sort code, but before I got my card & PIN.

Now in my case I certainly deserved for the AVU to say no as there was some evil data lurking on my credit file but OP has no adverse information, just a blank credit file, from what he's said, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about :o

well today i've got my natwest bank card so i hope i'm through the AVU check and won't be cancelled.

Its the blue one which i think someone said is an debit electron so i can't use it at petrol pumps trains or airlines ? is there any other limitations.

One query though am i able to book hotels with this card over the internet i think hotels like open ended cards so charges can be added throughout your stay . i'd be going with my partner so i wouldn't want to embrass myself by saying on arrival that my card isn't valid.
