Moving House with Virgin Media

Sorry if this is a common thread.

I'm a student moving back in with my parents over summer. I hadn't really planned to do this so I took out an 18 month contract with Virgin Media when I got a new flat in January. Now that I'm moving out, that's going to cost close to £200 to cancel and I can't transfer it to my parents' home as they're tied down to a fixed contract themselves and aren't in a cable area anyway.

I'd hoped they'd let me keep paying/postpone the contract and just resume services when I get my own place again at the start of a new university term (September) but apparently this is completely out of the question.

Anybody have any tips on how to avoid paying the massive cancellation fee?
