Can any1 please tell me if Virgin Media phone line is need to be installed to get there wireless broadband because from what I can understand the wireless broadband is connected to the tele ?

Virgin Media sell cable broadband (and TV) and that does not require a telephone line although they can supply one if you want it. As they charge more for the broadband if you don't take the phone as well the difference in price between BB and BB + phone is quite small.

Virgin National offer ADSL which does require a BT based phoneline to work.

Not all areas are cabled. Virgin National ADSL is not highly regarded. In some areas the cable is no great shakes either but in general it is very good.

The "wireless" bit just means they supply a modem/router that also has a WiFi access point built into it.

If you are in a cable area,you CANNOT have any broadband on a cable phone line as they work differently than a BT line,the BBand is either supplied over a SACM (Stand Alone Cable Modem) or a Cable TV STB (Set Top Box) depending on what system is used in your area. (Sotland/NI & Wales use the SACM)
Because the BBand service comes over the same line as the TV,you are limited to VM BBand.

I'm pretty sure all new installs will come with a wireless modem/router these days. There are two models one for 10Mbps and the other for 30/50/100Mbps. I don't doubt there will be old installations out there still using the set top box though.
