Yes, I am on a contact lens scheme but due to having a serious eye ulcer a couple of years ago I have to have my eye checked every 3 months so buying online is a no-no as get these checks done 'free' as part of my plan. Glasses is definitely going to be the best option.
The curries, stews, jacket spuds have been our diet for the last 6 months lol!!!!
I went to specsavers and got glasses for daytime/work use. I wear daily disposable contact lenses when I go out, but a month's supply (£22) lasts me about 6 months now.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

That's a good idea, glasses for work, contact lenses when going out. Whoops, I no longer go out!!!!:rotfl:0 -

Do you know anything about the criteria for carers allowance?
Obviously not.
To claim carers allowance (CA)the person you care for needs to get DLA middle rate care which means more than hours worth of care a day. The OP's husband does not even claim DLA at the moment.
And the person claiming CA needs to care for the person for 35+ hours a week and earn no more than a £100 pw.
So not sure why you think they can claim CA.
DLA is not means tested and CA is.

I didn't really think about the cost of insurance too as I had assumed they were aready named drivers on one of the cars. Sorry.alexisemma31 wrote: »I haven't claimed any working families tax credits etc. as I was hoping hubby would be working, but I may need to put a claim in now we aren't entitled to anything else.
I didn't want to build your hopes up re tax credits and knock them down again, but I'm not sure you will be able to claim tax credits now as it will depend on what your children are doing. I don't think you will be able to claim for the 18 year old who is going to university. Is the 19 year old at college?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

My 19 year old has just left college and is due to start a part time temp job in a couple of weeks at a local clothing store0 -

No apologies needed. I know my reply may have been blunt but if you are really not sure then best thing is
1) don't say anything.
2)use Google to found the criteria in about 30 seconds flat.
I believe the criteria has been same at least since my husband become disabled 5 years ago. I have gone back to 2000 and can't find nothing that has changed apart from the amount that someone can earn while claiming CA which is still less than a £100 after tax.
I was told that I could claim CA when my husband came out of hospital:rotfl:
I was working and my husband did not get DLA middle rate(another story) so I knew I could not claim it.
The best the OP can do is to see if on care and/or mobility needs her husband can get DLA. Can take up to 12 weeks to get a claim through once you have done battle with the forms:eek:. Will not give loads of money but will tide them over.
See if her husband can get another job and go over to the debt board and do a statement of Affairs. As at the moment ever little helps.
You should never not pay rent/mortgage as you will not have a roof over your head. Or not pay council tax as you could end up in prison, you will at least go to court and then it starts to get messy.
I wish the OP all the best.

Something isn't right. You have £170 left + CB, and you say that you haven't been paying your mortgage or the home improvement loan for 6 months, so that's at least £800 a month extra that you've had left. What did you spend it on?
I really don't want to be judgemental, I just don't understand how you can be struggling.0 -
Given the situation with the mortgage and council tax you need to have a family conference where you spell out in words of one syllable the need to reduce all spends. That means no heating, everything except the fridge and freezer turned off at the mains unless it is being actively used. No leaving on computers, docking stations, TV or chargers on stand by. All lights turned off when leaving the room. Short showers; wet, turn off then soap up, then rinse off. Soap not expensive gels.
Budget everything.
OH needs to read up on eagerlearners thread on whaty to earn money on-line. He could also do reviews and get paid. It might only be enough to cover his petrol but it would help.
And if they are not working full-time both the young adults need to knuckle down to income raising as well. Use the local library if that is within wlalking distance. I suggest both get bikes if they do not already have them (free of freecycle if necessary) and cycle to see friends etc.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Then I don't think you will be able to claim tax credits either. Neither child is at school or college and you earn too much for working tax credits. I may be wrong though, someone will correct me if I am.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
