I pay for "Breastfeeding Coordinators"!

Sorry if this is a revelation to just me but.... breastfeeding coordinators? :eek:
It is reported by the Daily Mail but since the topic is doubleplusgood for the female-centric paper they don't degrade the crazy non-job:
Either I get my dream job :T or don't and then sue for sex discrimination :cool:
Are there male equivalents in the NHS? Facial grooming facilitators? Penis usage coordinators? If not, is it because the government think women are stupid? Do veterinarians have graphical representations of the "process" for dogs, cats, rabbits, cows and guinea pigs?

Why is this a non-job? The medical benefits of breast feeding, for both the mother and the child are well documented, including reductions in incidents of breast cancer for mothers and helping the development of a baby’s brain, eye sight, immune system and digestive system as well as warding off obesity.
Unfortunately a lot of ladies struggle to breast feed and often give up without advice and assistance. The UK has one of the lowest rates of breastfeeding in Europe despite the well known health benefits. Breast feeding co-ordinators are there to help ladies achieve and then persevere with it for at least the first 6 months of the baby's life.
They are cheaper than paying a midwife or doctor, who have little time for this anyway and I feel that anything that can prevent cancer, obesity and boost the immune system in general will more than pay for itself in saving NHS funds over the child's lifetime.0 -

I had a friend who was in a job titled "Teenage Pregnancy Co-ordinator"! I wanted to try that one out...;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
It is a complex still and counsellors increase the rates of breastfeeding.0

What I find disappointing is that we need such jobs - why are we failing to educate ourselves that we can understand the benefits of things like giving up alcohol in pregnancy and breast feeding rather than failing to understand the risks at all or giving up because it is 'hard' or it might make the breasts sag...I think....0

I know a person who proudly stated through her pregnancy that "no-one will stop me smoking..." yet has a hissy fit if anyone else is within a 10 mile radius of her now born kid with a cigarette. Apparently it isn't hypocritical!
Families and communities used to share this information & education together. Why does that no longer happen?It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Perhaps Britain's lower levels of breast feeding are caused by something other than the Government.0 -

My wife could not breast feed properly (milk was just not sufficient) and my son starved for nearly a week. My wife finally gave in as his weight plummeted and having to give him warm water to hydrate him and used formula (in hopital) and the midwives still looked down on her.
It may be best, but it should not be viewed on failure if it can't be done.
Lot's of women feel like failures because a fanatical it has become.
If it is what is best for the baby, surly having sufficient food and not a depressed mom are part of that?
Our experience of that system was very bad, it was more like enforcement than encouragement and mental torture should you fail or not comply.0 -
