vodafone payg

Options
i have the old style vodafone dongle,ie top up with £15 whenever you need to ,no monthly contract which suits myself and my girl just fine, yesterday, despite having £8.43 credit on the unit,we can connect to the internet but as soon as we try to connect to internet explorer,we get switched to a vodafone top up site and told we need to top up,this happens on both of our laptops.does anyone know if vodafone have cancelled this type of dongle,as i read somewhere that they do not like them as they dont generate enough revenue.
we use the device everyday and have never had a problem except for poor signal sometimes,
regards

    Only Internet Explorer?

I can test mine, but as I don't use Vodafone connection software I won't get the re-direct. But I can still check to see if I can surf the Internet.

    Mine is fine.
  • I've had this with a phone where you either have to spend money with Vodafone or top it up every 3 months or it stops working.

The phone said it had no credit when I tried to make a call but had £20 plus when I phoned the credit line.

A phonecall to customer services sorted it out.

After 6 months I think the credit would have gone.

They write that they use it every day....
  • A fair point, but it is the type of dongle where the data never expires. It would be possible, as a light user (even daily) to not use all the data in 3 months hence hit the chargable event issue.

However I'm now leaning to the "having used up all the data" theory !

What chargeable event?? As long as you use it at least once within the time period, the credit doesn't expire.
The data is tied to the credit..at least it is with mine.
  • The term is fairly well explained here:-

    http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Pay-As-You-Go-Services/SIM-deactivated/td-p/716405

I read elsewhere that for a phone, a text sent doesn't count.

Somewhere in the data SIM Ts&Cs I would expect a similar concept.

With data on a broadband dongle you get charged when you buy the block of data not when you use it, so you could go for some months as a light user before you top up or buy another block of data, hence the potential for a time out.

You are wrong in this case. On the non-expiring SIMs, a chargeable event is using the data. So as long as they connect to the Internet, even for a second within a six month period, that will keep it going for another six months.
