Noisy and nasty neighbour - is this a good plan?

You can try the polite approach but I doubt it will get anywhere, because she has already proved that she is happy to antagonise you even further with her music after a complaint.
Go to environmental health right away, the noise diary is the start but it's a long process. That's what they are there for, it's not a police issue unless there are accompanying crimes, the HA will do little unless EH investigation is underway. If you visit the neighbours from hell forum you'll get some more advice.0 -
I'd go to Environmental Health - they will hopefully have a noise team who will come out and measure the noise. I had similar problems in the past, and have put up with a variety of different noise issues, but drum and bass is definitely the worse - you can feel it in your teeth!! I found the anticipation of noise almost as bad as I spent the whole time waiting for it to start, and tensing up at the slightest hint of noise.0
-
Try the police again - this time tell them you believe the noise nuisance constitutes an offence under the Protection from Harassment Act, 1997."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Is there anything you can do to practically deaden the sound? Where I used to live we stapled carpet underlay to the backs of bookcases and put them up against the party wall - not because next door was loud but because we had audio equipment in that room and didn't want to disturb people. It might not stop it, but it might take the edge off it whilst the authorites do their thing.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

Enforcement powers for Noise Nuisance are with Environmental Health. Contact them. And persist with them, ask them to explain their procedure and enforcement policy.
Also, your neighbour is also likely to be in breach of her tenancy conditions, so conact the HA a well.0 -
These thing do take so long and hopefully your out before it goes on too long . A little bit of their own medicine sometimes work and i have been known for a little loud tellytubbies tunes during Kyle in the mid mornings and a little cliff at deal or no deal time:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Go to env health and don't engage with her. She has had the behaving reasonably option and has chosen the other path. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0

This log you're keeping - who is getting copies of it?
Email it the HA each time she makes a noise. Chase up the HA.
Ask the env health what they can do.0 -
I feel so so sorry for you. I really do, and this woman is actually not insane (well I dont think she is) she knows exactly what she's doing and is causing you misery.
I live in a flat and there is an old lady who lives in the flat next door, her bedroom backs onto mine, and she screams in the night - she shouts, curses, screams, jabbers on to herself - its awful being woken up by it it sounds like someone is being murdered and is very eery. I have a 10 month old, thank god she doesnt hear her as she is far away from that wall in the flat. I kept a 2 month log of everytime she made noise, and sent in to the council who were flabberghasted that this woman has been left to live alone - they hadnt dealt with it before. I had the police out one night and they had to break her door in and she was crying whilst they were doing it.
In the end, the council couldnt do anything it was down to Social Services - her doctor has been informed, and apparently the mental health team too. She still continues to scream in the night and i have moved my bed away from that wall which has helped matters but i still hear her if i wake up. Its terrible i feel sorry for her but then not that sorry as i actually bumped into her outside, and i said you need to stop this you will wake my baby up and she said she was so sorry but 10 mins seems like half an hour to her she is so bored, poor thing. She's obv a bit doolally. Thats why im kinda putting up with it until the end of my tenancy.
BUT in your case you do NOT have to suffer, this woman is a horrible selfish cow and you need to press it further - record her noise, get evidence, ring around and research what your rights are and what can be done - you havent mentioned if you are renting - your best option may be to move if you can, obviously this isnt always that easy!
Let us know how yo get on, it really is awful having noisy neighbours. x0 -

Thank you very muchAnd thanks to the rest of you for the advice!
Cor, that sounds really eerie - I'd be petrified! Reading your posts has made me realise though that I need to stop being such a wuss and report her instead of trying to be nice. Clearly it won't get through to her, she just seems like a nasty selfish bully.0
