Carpet or laminate in lounge?

@SnowWhite - i think you could be an honourary scandi, the underfloor heating completes the effect!!!0

Depends on your lifestyle as everyone has said. I like laminate because we have kids and the living room is a bit of a thoroughfare and you can get it really clean.
Our laminate is not noisy as we have a good underlay underneath it. It's worn really well too, we have had it about 5 years and it looks as good as new. We have a rug in the centre of the room to make it cosier.
Only problem we have had is that we would have now like to make some structural changes to the room and these are not possible without having a new floor laid which is a pain (like new fireplace etc). If we had carpet, the changes would have required a new carpet too, but I think that would be quicker and easier.
Good luck!0 -
I have young children and have Amtico in nearly every room in our home - lots and lots of sweeping on a regular daily basis and yes it has its uses - scrubbable, wipeable but even though its Amtico it is still colder and would imagine laminate is even worse (Unless of course you have underfloor heating) but we have carpet in the lounge and am sooo pleased we do - it is definitely on my opinion warmer, cosier and more luxurious. We got one with a good anti stain property and have been pleased we did - good luck in whatever you decide!0

I've got laminate and with having two dogs i wouldn't like to have a carpet down. The stair carpet is bad enough with catching dog hairs; then there's mud when they run in from outside.
Although i do like the look of ceramic tiles, so if i had the money i'd go for ceramic tiles with under floor heating.0 -
do you have pets, children, a husband who is messy and soils himself when on a night out with friends?0

Got hard floors in all the downstairs rooms. I've got three children and two dogs and find it's much easier to keep clean than carpets.
I've never found it cold, but the house is very well insulated. Even in the minus stupid temperatures last year, I never found the floors to be cold. I suffer from Raynauds so I do feel the cold. Here I go again on my own....0
