DFW - I was in Fallingbostel and Hohne and I loved both places. Hohne is better as there is more there, Fally is more of a large village but Hohne was lovely. I miss the communal barbecues we all used to have at the back of the flats we lived in ... we lived right next to Slim school and it was great ... nursery just down the road and school just out the back ... we were close enough to "town" that I could walk in, get my shopping and walk home, I would go back to Hohne in a heartbeat but we are civvys now! Like life in termoil said, serengetti is great (just don't buy the animal feed!) and heide park was awesome!

I have lived in Hohne for 5 years and love the area even though I am ready to move onto pastures new.

The LOA had dropped significantly but as a LBdr with 3 nippers you would still take home £517.08. Plus kindergeld which is roughly €300.

With regards to shopping, Germany is loads more expensive if you shop in the NAAFI, however if you go to the local shop then you can get pratically everything you need for cheaper. Ok the local shops don't have Heinz baked beans and all the other brands people are addicted to but who cares. Learn to cook more stuff using fresh produce and you'll be loads better off.

Hohne is the ideal place to get out and explore Europe, just look at all the countries that border it and beyond. Not to mention some of the places you can visit in Germany, which we've found is as good as, if not better, than most other countries.

But the main reason we like it in Germany is that the standard of lifestyle is far greater than it is in the UK. All the towns and cities are loads cleaner. The people are more frendlier, when you travel away from the Squaddie infested areas and make an effort with the language.

I've forgottent the original question now, so I hope what I've written helps?

My husband used to be posted in Germany and he did get a couple of free flights a year I think, however he was there for I think 3 years, and we only used 1 free flight, and paid ourselves to go on Air Berlin the rest of the time.

The problem with the free flights were that they were only available on times the army said so, certain days, dates etc, and so were pretty much useless.
