Not sure if it helps but I think this is how my hot water works
No it doesn't TBH 'cos its very generic - see below.
Does it mean it has a vent pipe and can not be an airlock in the hot.
Yes it does and no it doesn't if it is piped such that the shower pump is drawing air down the vent. Thats why I asked you to describe carefully and in detail exactly how YOUR shower is piped. Let me ask you some specific questions then:

    1. Is the feed for the shower taken horizontally from the vertical vent?

    2. Alternatively has the vent been altered such that it has a section at 45 degrees to the vertical with the shower feed being drawn off that 45 degree section?

    3. In either case above has a U shaped loop been installed in the pipe work before it goes up to the roof and the pump?

    4. Alternatively is the shower feed taken direct from side of the tank via a secondary pipe to the taps?
    What about the cold ?
Forget that for the moment - its unlikely.

Have you called the plumber back yet?

    Cheers

Went to bed last night with the intention of ringing the plumber first thing for him to come and sort it out.

Wife got shower this morning followed be me (not together ;) unfortunately) and when I turned off the water the pump stoped by itself, I then turned back on the water and the pump started again, and then stoped when I turned the water off again.

So as it stands at the moment it looks to have sorted itself, allbeit early days yet.

But I would like to thank everyone involved in this thread for some fantastic advice and guidance.

I will keep you posted if situations change.

I have just got to get someone to fix the leaky stop c o c k now.

    Cheers
