Wife dropped hers in the toilet and the screen didnt work, we followed the following steps:
Turn it off immediately
Shake it to get the water out of it, most comes out of the headphone socket
Put in the middle of a container full of dried rice
Stick it in the airing cupboard (or anywhere warm and dry) for 3 days without touching it
Turned it on and the screen worked perfectly again0 -
I dropped mine about 2-3 weeks ago worked fine at first then about 5 days later it started to play up badly. When charging it got sooo hot you couldn't touch it and it brought up a warning sign.
Apple wouldn't exchanged it I had to claim on my insuranceFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
Contact Apple and they should swap it for the fee below, my son has just had a toilet incident and they said no problem. Orange wanted over £300. I suppose the service price shows the cost price of an iPhone

If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service Fee listed below.
Please note Out-of-Warranty Repair Service fees from your carrier may be different than those listed below.
iPhone 4S £ 146.44
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, Original iPhone £ 126.44
The Out-of-Warranty Service Fee includes a £ 7.44 shipping fee, which applies only if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in British pound sterling and include VAT. iPhone Out-of-Warranty Service may also be available from your wireless carrier. Pricing may vary.
When setting up out-of-warranty service, Apple will request credit card pre-authorisation for the maximum service fee listed above. This amount will be deducted from your credit limit. The final service fee we charge will be determined during testing and may be less than the service fee listed above.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPhone that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.
Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPhone is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. iPhones that are repaired or replaced have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone coverage, whichever is longer. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.
If you have an iPhone that Apple determines is not repairable, you may wish to contact your carrier for other options.0 -
Hi, this is my first post so I hope I am in the right place? I have an iphone4 which was my daughter's as I upgraded her mobile to the iphone5 as I am on a SIM only contract I didn't sort my insurance (upgrade Dec 2013) as it was only for 12 months, I can't believe 1 month to go I dropped my iphone4 in bleach & water literally for a min, done the usual (dried it left in rice for 2 weeks) sadly only when it charges it beeps but nothing other than that, the screen has a crack but I have a replacement (I was going to recycle it as damaged & Mobile Phone Xchange offer £92.80 in that condition though I don't know if crack screen & water damage would mean offer would be less) since I read Martin's advice not to sell to these companies I wondered if anyone knows what I should do to get a reasonable price for my phone in a non working order like mine?? HELP please0

I doubt that £92.80 would be for one with a cracked screen - if it is, then I can't really see you getting a better offer.
The high street CEX are normally pretty fair when it comes to buying stuff (fair as in don't just pluck a figure out of thin air) and their website shows that they will pay £50 for a broken iPhone 4.
They define broken as "Non-working – Phone intact, not crushed or snapped in half. Non-working examples: dead, cracked, broken/bleeding LCD (screen), not powering up, speaker/mic faults, broken aerial, etc. No accessories required"0 -
My aunt recently dropped her iphone 4 in the toilet. She went to the apple store to see if they would sell her another one or fix that one. They replaced with a brand new phone no questions asked. Try this first. Apple are usually very good!
No they didn't. You got an Apple Refurbished unit, and whilst they look like new, they do not have 12 months warranty.0
