Broken iphone - Can I claim on my contents?

Hello All

I have just had a message from my husband saying he has smashed the screen on his iphone4... i only bought it for him a week ago :mad::mad::mad:

Anyway I do not have any phone insurance but I am wondering if anyone has any experience of claiming for a replacement on their house insurance?

Thanks

Does your contents cover have the accidental damage add-on?

If it does, you should be covered.

The majority of policies I've seen exclude personal possessions under contents AD - you would need to have personal possessions cover.

But from what I gather, the market is changing and more insurers are covering personal possessions under AD these days...

Is it the front or back that has smashed .i got my rear glass of ebay for £16 and fixed it myself with the help of youtube
I also seen front screens on there too,you can also send them off and get fixed for a little over £100 i think
What is your excess on house insurance might be worthwhile not claiming and getting it repaired

My aunt recently dropped her iphone 4 in the toilet. She went to the apple store to see if they would sell her another one or fix that one. They replaced with a brand new phone no questions asked. Try this first. Apple are usually very good!

I've just had a look at the Paymentshield policy brochure and damage to mobile phones is specifically excluded from Contents Accidental Damage Cover, so apologies to the OP for the bum steer.

Under personal possessions cover, the following can be found;-
We will pay for the cost of replacement of mobile telephones up to a maximum of £250 in any one claim.

I'm not sure it's worth your excess and loss of no claims if the maximum is £250.

If you have personal possessions cover it is normally All Risks and therefore would cover AD. Payment Shield, at least a few years ago, tended to be very poor cover so not surprised of their low limits.

Do look at other options first as they are not that expensive to replace, Apple can be generous at times, and once you deduct your excess, factor in the cost of losing your NCD and your premium increase for a claim it may not be worth while claiming under the insurance even if you are covered.

There would be no excess to pay if it's a limit, you always deduct the excess and then apply the limit if neccesary. :)
  • i know this is quite an older forum but last night i dropped my iphone in the toilet, and it seems to be working except from the screen so i cannot see a thing. i was reading the answer about apple giving a new one, and was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation recently and how they've went about it?
