I know but it's more fun than discussing Skodas :rotfl:
But back ot, I wouldn't hock myself for a Skoda.
Get with the times, man! This isn't the 80's, Skodas are decent motors these days. Not especially exciting, granted.
By the way, I'm currently working my way through that Seat thread. It is rather amusing...0 -

I think I've read it a couple of times now. There was also an absolutely brilliant one on PistonHeads that made its way to MSE a couple of years back where a naive 19 year old managed to sign up to £30k of finance on a crap focus.
There really is one born every minute!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Cars have always go people into money trouble, it's the desire thing......30k for a Ford Focus? I'd want a Ford GT40 for that kind of dosh.
I'm lucky I guess, I like nice cars but I prefer having the money instead.
As for Skodas, Fiats, Seats etc etc, I'm sorry but the rubbish rep they had while I was growing up means I'm extremely unlikey to buy one. If you're my age you'll remember Alfasuds, Lancias and all those other French, Italian and Spanish rot boxes."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
It's a Skoda Fabia VRS. Reasons being that currently I haven't got a car at all (borrowing my mother's) and need one which is more economical - the Skoda is cheaper to tax, insure, and has better fuel economy than the current motor - and is also a bit of fun.
What car has your mother got??
I would question wether it's cheaper to insure-the Fabia VRS is group 18 to insure!
She must have some motor!
& by the way, the new model is group 27!0 -

It's only a 1.4 Pug 207. For some reason unknown to me last time I got an insurance quote on it it was £350 (I've only got 2 years ncb at the minute) and for the Skoda it's £285. Actually as far as tax goes it's in the same band, but the MPG on my mother's car is dismal (34 mpg for a 1.4?)0 -
I take it hers is petrol?
With the VRS being Diesel it will improve the MPG by a long way as long as you dont use it for '...a bit of fun!'0 -
Actually the new VRS models are petrol (1.4 engine). The combined cycle MPG on them is 45 which is much better than I'm getting with my old dear's motor!0

i very doubt you will see that on a VRs, it is only a 1.4 but its forced induction (turbo) and im pretty sure it also has a supercharger for the low rpm then the turbo takes over as you get higher into the torque band.
and with regards to your NCB, if youve been driving your mums car as a named driver you will not be able to take these onto your own policy, you will have to start from fresh.Old Account RecoveredDebt at LMB April 2009= £14,980Debt free Sometime in November 2013£69k left of 90k Mortgage - Overpaying by £270 a monthCurrent Savings = £13000MSE turned my life around years ago0 -
The "official" economy of the VRS is 45.7mpg and I've read a few reviews which say they got the same (after breaking it in). My no claims will be ok for a while, had my own insurance until I had to sell my car in January.0

I'm talking from real life experience from a family member, not reviews or official figures.
I don't think youll believe me, but it will not be how you expected. I guarantee you will get a similar mpg as the old pug.Old Account RecoveredDebt at LMB April 2009= £14,980Debt free Sometime in November 2013£69k left of 90k Mortgage - Overpaying by £270 a monthCurrent Savings = £13000MSE turned my life around years ago0
