NS&I Fixed Interest Savings Certificates

NS&I Fixed Interest Savings Certificates
5-year 97th issue from 12 May 2011
Guaranteed compound rate over 5 years 2.25% AER Tax-free
2.81% basic rate
3.75% higher rate
4.50% additional rate

With max allowed of index-linked now, can I still apply for some Fixed Interest Savings Certificates?
Is 2.25% tax free fixed interest still a good deal?

    Yes, you can.

Is it still a good edal.
Well depend on what you can get elsewhere.
If you are both higher rate taxed payers and have exhausted all other avenues then perhaps.
For most people I would say they probably aren't a good deal, but depend on tax status..

They're not a patch on 5 year FR ISAs at the Coventry BS and at Birmingham Midshires.
Free the dunston one next time too.

I think that depends on your circs as already stated.
That won['t be any good to anyone (like me) who has already used their ISA allowance.

On the other hand for some people there are much better deals out there.
