  • I had this a few years ago with LTSB, said if they needed to know I had my card on me, they should wait til I spent the money and said I'd go into the branch to verify their call, funnily enough I never heard from them again.

No, that can't be right to be honest - how many banks are there and to just randomly call people asking if they are with X bank isn't going to work. they KNEW I banked with Abbey. How do they know your phone number and who you bank with? I thought a bank receipt and then getting number from BT but I am ex-directory - even then how do they know where you live to get the number. They specifically told me they were calling from Abbey so they knew my bank detail, full name and telephone number - address, date of birth, etc... Scary!!
Either it's an inside job, someone's been going through your bins or it's someone you know.

Why not play a game with these scammers ,give them fictitious numbers.Play it as though you want to help them. Then take it with a pinch of salt ,refer it to your bank ,tell them what you have done and let them act upon the info ,then make sure you buy a shredder.

First four are bank prefix but what about the next four? Asking for the last 8 and knowing the first 4 still only gives you 12 numbers...

Actually, for any Visa debit or credit card, it's the first six that identify the issuer.

So they only need to guess the other two numbers - 100 combinations?
Everyone needs something to believe in.

I believe I need another beer.
