I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

I'm an ex vegetarian (met OH basically) and if my man dared complain at eating fish I'd hit him over the head with the meat tenderiser lol. Fortunately as son of a chef and an angler as a kid, he loves fish.
My New Year's resolution was to eat more, so far we've had bream, sea bass, dab, flounder, red gurnard, Scottish salmon, Cornish lemon sole, Rye Bay plaice, Cornish sardines (pilchards), sardines, sprats, ray, octopus, squid, langoustines, wild North Atlantic shell-on prawns, mussels, Canadian lobster, kippers and rainbow trout - much of it from Morrisons, ASDA and Lidl.0 -

I'm impressed with your range of fish (can'[t fancy octopus though - looks too reptillian)! My nearest Tesco fish counter always smells really strongly of fish so I never fancy anything from there, plus Morrison's is miles away, and my local Sainsburys only has pre-packed fresh fish. We don't have a fishmonger any more although until about 12 years ago there were TWO and they were always busy! I have been meaning to go to Bury market for ages and wondered about buying fish from there as we should be eating more of it, but I am worried about it being fresh.
You can get fish online but it is mega expensive!Jane

Tonight we are having some sausages (coop truly irresistable pork & caramelised onion + pork & leek, YS and then frozen), jackets (fresh YS king edwards) and veggies (fridge) (kids will also get yorkies (freezer)).
For lunch today I had homemade turkey soup for from the freezer and will finish the rest tomorrow or thursday.
Not sure what to have for dinner tomorrow but will have to decide tonight so OH can brave the freezer cos you won't get me in there - it is too full!
We did dig out a large pack of breaded ham last night for sandwiches so there may be a smidgen of room... just as long as I stay away from Mr T and the YS section!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Ooh yes, same here: love fish but don't eat enough. Got some haddock goujons in the freezer, will have those on Thursday but don't see that much whoopsied fish, mostly prawns & I'm allergic to those unfortunately.
Got some lovely organic bread in Sainsburys yesterday, reduced to 44p which is more than I usually pay for whoopsied bread but it smelt so good
Trying to reduce the amount of sugar I consume. It's so shocking when you look at some of these food labels...My local shop had whoospied lucky charms (individual bowls) and because I'm still a big kid I had to get one. Had a terrible headache after I'd eaten it, probably all the rubbish in themServes me right!

Hey all
Had the last of the oxtail for lunch was yummy, just snacks for dinner.
Halfday at work tomorrow as I have a full Swedish massage booked in the afternoon, courtesy of a group on credit, so cost me 16 for an hour, will have the pasta when I get in for lunch.
Been walking around work smiling because I know I'm being made redundant, need to stop it really, I am a bit too smug.
Succumbed to the cathedral city offer and got 4 packs of cheese for £4.50 as the double packs are £2.75 while the single packs are £1.99 on half price offer, so stocked up, have used next months budget though, ad it starts on Friday.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

Evening.
Edwardia - thanks for the hug, starting to pick myself up a little.
Strange spending today.
Lidl this morning, bought milk and carrots and spent £1.65 and thought that was it for the day.
Hubby wanted some of the Hoegaarden on offer at Tesco and planned to get a few, but hardly any on shelf and only got 3 packs.
I bought some cheese (2 x Cathedral City £1.99 half-price) and a mozzarella for 49p and used the £1 off cheese coupon, so £3.47 on food budget. Also bought some carnations for 40p, already in vase.
Got a till spit for £3 off £20, so back again tomorrow and hopefully get £20+ worth of Hoegaarden and get the £3 off. Also got the £10 off £80, but that won't be used!!!
The double packs of Cathedral City scanned at full price, they either have fixed the glitch or none left of the glitch type!!!!!
Bargain night in Sainsbury's on the bread stuff, everything was 10p.
Spent 60p and bought:
Oven bottom muffins (6) - was 99p - 10p
Hovis Granary - was £1.35 - 10p
Premier crumpets (6) - was 89p -10p
2 x Warburton Original - were £1.35p each - 10p each - 20p
Cream apple doughnuts (2) - was £1.19 - 10p
Lots and lots for 60p and nearly never went in as just been to Tesco!!
Days total spend was £5.72, again more than planned and will probably go over this week - see if I care. lol :rotfl:
Freezers now full and no bread needed for a while, though only froze approx 50% and rest for birds tomorrow - God they are in for a feast!!
Had to take out an apple crumble to fit everything in and left out crumpets for tomorrow's breakfast and cream cakes have vanished!!!
Got the chance of a free freezer from my Brother as he has new fridge and freezer and might take it for a few months as an overflow.
Only small and probably fillable in one decent visit.

Mr F has stopped dripping blood after his fall  - so he ventured in to the garage where the biggest freezer lives. He found some cooked mince for the dog, a couple of Yorkshire puddings, a sandwich for his lunch tomorrow and some sausages - for TITH on Thursday. So there is now a tiny space in that freezer.
I got a some sliced roast pork out of the small freezer - for tomorrow's dinner - can't see where that came from!
We had HM garlic wedges with pizza and salad - celery, cucumber, grated carrot, onion and tomatoes for dinner.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I should have photographed the rump steak I had for dinner all smeared in Boursin mmm..
Fish.. if the fish smells really fishy please don't buy it..but a fish stall will smell especially if unrefrigerated or if the ice has melted. Try to buy fish from the back on ice rather than at the front not on ice and being breathed over. Do please look at the eyes and don't buy if sunken or dull. The fishmonger should do anything you want to the fish for free. Plaice have really bright orange spots when fresh. Fish to avoid are cod and haddock, as under pressure because of all the discards. (for more info on those www.fishfight.net ) Wild salmon always better than farmed so if you see if cheap prefer it. Most cheap sea bass is farmed now too. Hope that helps !0 -
Lynsey - hope you are feeling better about everything today - you are doing marvellously with your budget - and that coffee was an investment!!! I have only taken a pastie out of the freezer for my lunch, but some chicken drumsticks out to defrost for tomorrow. Amazingly for all the removals I've made you wouldn't guess it - the freezer still seems full though not as "solid" if that makes sense. Am going to put my rubber gloves on and go for a rummage later and see if I can make a definite space in there which would be a psychological boost! The gloves are just so my hands don't freeze!!!I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

Morning.
AlwaysHappy - thank you, feeling more positive today. Get the odd "down day" and think "what the **** am I doing??". lol
The problem appears that I want to go out and grab loads of bargains, but can't on my budget!!! Can only just tick-over and be selective.
Roll on week 52.
Crumpets soon for breakfast and off to Dentist, no money to pay though as fully paid up last time (seems several times over)!!
Hubby's having a chicken balti and not too sure about myself yet, got a large apple crumble to eat, might have that with custard..........several times.
We need to start using freezer stuff and I don't normally meal plan, but may have to next week.
Need to buy those eggs today and a bag of onions. The large bag from Lidl's is nearly gone and only 3 iffy ones. I'm sure a place near the Dentist's sell 5kg bags for £1.50.
We need a "London Style" market up here, sadly missed!!
Have fun, looks like a dull day here.
