I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

My quiche has leaked.
It's only the 2nd quiche I've made, and both have leaked. Thought I'd get away with it with using jus-rol. I need more practice.
Will make the pastry myself next time as the first quiche I made, the pastry was the best bit lol, only used the shop one for the flan dish offer.
Starting to snow lightly here and it's blinking freezing. I need to get milk on the way home. Wouldn't mind trying the chocolate philly either so will look out for that.
Had warm weetabix for brekkie, apple for dinner as I forgot about it and it was too late for anything else. Tea is either the quiche or chicken kiev.
cheerfulness - agree with your points about the younger child copying the older one. Lay the law down with the older one, and the younger should follow.
sounds silly but roll your pastry in 2 peices on grease proff paper, i can never get mine to roll properly other wise, and if it tears it sticks back together this way where as with a rolling pin it just seemed to sit on stop, it really does work and theres less messi learned this from ebay as a tip for pie crust

The soup turned out the best I've made, really made a difference having the lentils in with the oven roasted squash as it was filling for once. Added storecupboard ginger, chilli and curry paste as well as onions/garlic and only pureed the squash so the lentils and onions remaining unpureed added some texture. Absolutely gorgeous!! Have stuck the rest in portions in the freezer. Will probably do the same recipe with the pumpkin now.
Now I've got the curry paste open that will dictate my meals for the next few days..
Think I will just have a ciabatta roll with the last of the Quorn beef slices for dinner as I've got so much washing up from lunch I can't be bothered to cook again today!
Ilona, your blog is fascinating.0 -
Went to sainsbobs this evening, if the snow keeps up I won't be getting to lidl on Saturday! Spent about £30 ish, got lots of cleaning bits, reduced fruit and other bits. Staying in all weekend so ready for hibernation come 5pm tomorrow. Lucky I can walk to work in the morning!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Illona - just started to read your blog at about 11 and have just stopped now as it was getting so late! Fascinating. I have a question though - one of your tips was to stick a label on return envelopes that you sometimes get and don't use. Sometimes I get a reply paid envelope with stuff and deal with it over the phone. If I stick a label over the address can I then send it and the postage is paid?
Didn't get in from work until after 7 and walked up the drive to see the neighbours being burgled! So after all the hoo haa and giving statements to police etc it was after 9 and no tea had been eaten! I just threw some oven fish and chips in the oven and we had that - it was Birds Eye breaded cod fillet and I have to say that I won't be buying it again!! Yuck!!
Just had a couple of flapjacks - I cooked them too long and they are a bit hard but still nice.
I bought a LOAD of those Mary Berry Christmas cake mixes in Tesco a couple of weeks ago because they were reduced to £1 (originally £10 each). Today I broke them all down and now have masses of plain flour, brown sugar, dried fruit (already soaked in rum/brandy), marzipan, icing sugar and chopped nuts plus little pots of apricot jam, black treacle and mixed spice - reckon it would have cost me a fortune to buy all that separately!! I also bought a load of the Sainsburys Christmas Cake decorating sets for £1 and so now have even more marzipan, icing, silver balls and several sets of star cookie cutters in different sizes! Bargain!
Better get to bed!Jane

Morning, MSE seemed to have had issues last night, so had an early night.
Spent 97p last night in Sainsbury's - Red Rosters (39p), Organic carrots (29p) and another loaf for 29p (Hovis thick white this time) - again froze 3 x 4 slices and the birds will get the rest (fantastic selection of garden birds at the minute).
I'm definitely going to check for those bread coupons later..................I'm getting lazy!!
Grilled Spam sandwich for breakfast and pie, peas and mash for lunch. 1 more free pudding left, probably today.
Only the 1 NSD so far this week, but also had a 29p day and a 97p day. I was on a bit of a "downer" earlier in the week/end of last week and thought I'd fail a bit this week, but getting through it OK and not much needed now as I have my veg. Need milk later and some Lidl bacon medallions tomorrow and that's it really. If I'm passing a Coop tomorrow I might get some of those GU cheesecakes with coupon - my special treat. I wouldn't mind a few packs of Red Sky crisps @ 59p per pack either. Only 1 pack of free Clover Light left and 1 tub of Bertolli, so this will need to come out of budget soon...............unless another coupon comes along.
Need to book another Groupon meal deal for next week (Italian), after Valentines Day though!
No snow here, but looks cold - stay warm.

RS - i have the cake decorating kit and the yule log one
Need do some baking now!
Hope your neighbours are okay, and you!
Today we have snow, so ceasar salad is not happening for lunch. I have lifted out a left over cottage pie serving from the freezer, and also chicken breast for tonight's curry. I did have loads of space in the freezer, but now need to stop buying reduced bread!! Reduced strawberries and grapes for breakfast and snacking today.
Won't venture to the shops today, but will pop to lidl tomorrow if the roads are still clear.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Ditto - my freezer gaps were opening up nicely and it's amazing how much space bread fills. I've not really put much meat in the freezers this year..........yet. Take away the bread and pies and a couple of ready meals and there would be quite a bit of space - that is a positive.
No Morries this Saturday night and if I'm extra, extra frugal next week I could have a least one empty freezer drawer.
Sorry to hear about your neighbours Jane, hope they catch them.

RS, that is quite shocking!! though at least they were caught in the act I guess.
Morning all, had more snow here overnightonly an inch or two though this time, wanted more..
Breakfast - will be last of the drop scones from the freezer
Lunch - ciabatta roll - not sure yet what to put in it as I have no Quorn meat, no dip and no cheese!
Dinner - will use up more of the curry paste somehow, am thinking satay as redskin peanuts and coconut cream are all out of date.
I have to go past Asda today so may pop in as need a couple of bits.0 -
Morning all.
I take everything I said about ds being a good boy. On the way home from school he was being a right little ****! There's a McDonalds near his school and when we passed it he went into a full melt down about wanting it for his tea.
He didn't stop crying and trying to drag me back for about 20 mins. I was glad when I got to Asda so I could shove him in a trolley, where he continued to sob! I'm wondering if he didn't have much for his dinner at school as they'd rang up saying he said he was going home. I told them he was stopping hot dinners, but last night when we got home he wouldn't stop eating which is unlike him. He had his tea, two biscuits with choc philly on, a pack of iced gems (also had a pack leaving school) and a bowl of cereal!
He has also learned the art of copying everything I say. It can be funny, but then gets reallyyyyyyyyyyy annoying!!!
Had a spend of £3.07p for milk etc yesterday. Today I'm off to meet my sis for cheap fish n chips at BHS. Going to pop into tesco to get a couple of things while I'm in town, plus I'm going to get a climbing toy for the rats. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Morning all. Horrible day here, drizzly and grey. Lynsey, we live on the Isle of Man, we only have 1 Tesco, a few Co-ops, M&S and a local chain that sells Iceland and Waitrose food in their stores. I do miss being able to get in the car to pop to the big 4, Aldi, Lidl and places like B&M but whenever we go home to visit family we always fill the boot of the car with goodies to bring back. Food prices here are expensive to compensate for everything being brought in by boat but with time, patience and cooking most things from scratch we live very well.
Went to Tesco last night to take advantage of a £5 off £40 coupon, did a tactical shop and stocked up on things we use year round. Cupboards are HEAVING now so I'm hoping I can get away without shopping for anything but fresh food for at least about 10 days. I also managed to pick up some nice bargains last night, prepared fruit, La Brea olive bread and some green veg so we're sorted for over the weekend.
Breakfast for the kids was fruit and crumpets. Lunch will be a sandwich for the toddler and a salad for me. Dinner is Salad Nicoise for all of us. I have some nice irish beef to turn into a stew and will make a pot of spicy tomato and lentil soup later which will see us over the weekend with the good bread and fresh vegetables.
Ilona, I too spent a good couple of hours reading your blog last night. You are indeed, an inspiration and have amazing willpower to be as frugal as you are, all power to you. I have amazing respect for women who know what they want out of life and work hard to achieve their goals and you certainly fall into that category.0
