I've not spent a penny on food so far this month! :D:D

I did a small shop (under £10, all fresh stuff) before starting this challenge and paid for it with a T**co gift voucher I received from Valued Opinions.

    Very pleased with myself!!

Well done, no make that fantastic. :T
Well impressed and I'm pleased for you also.
I wish I had been more controlled last year, even though I never ever broke my budget. I'm actually enjoying being controlled (at the moment), there's very little I need and I've stopped popping into supermarkets "just for a look" - that was my downfall, scared to miss a "whoopsie". :o
I've got several tins of soup (nice ones) to use up and some Campbell's "freebies" (from coupons) that need using, I think I'll donate the Campbell's ones though as they are not very nice!! Hope someone else doesn't share my taste. :D
Two slices of M&S Xmas cake to get rid of today, I don't mind that though...........they won't be donated. :rotfl:

Been to Asda... againnnnn... to collect my shopping. Ended up buying puff pastry and a bramley apple so spent about £2.50, as well as the other shopping I had to pay for.

So, that's my lot. I'm not buying anything but fruit, veg, bread, milk, and the other essentials.

Today I think I'll have sausages with mash for tea. I'll make the sausage plait on Monday. Not sure what I'll have between.

  • I went to Sainsburys and came out £42 poorer!! I got some half price olive oil which I hadn't planned on but it was well worth it, plus I was walking past the pattesserie counter and just found myself standing there saying " a rocky road slice and two cinnamon buns please" - well it was 3 for 2!! I also buy the Sainsburys frozen finely diced mixed vegetables as they are so convenient and I couldn't chop onions, carrots and celery that finely - they are on offer at 2 for £2.50 (3kg in total) so I think that was a good buy.

I got Cravendale as it is still 2 for £3 in Sainsburys unlike Tesco where it is £1.96 a bottle! Also got two of the better than half price goodfellas pizzas. The Basics eggs were 69p last time I went and today were 79p and the basics mash (which I use for thickening hm soups) has gone from 18p to 45p a pack in two months!

After Sainsburys I went into Farmfoods for bacon, which I got, along with two boxes of Magnum minis, a box of rolo ice lollies, 2 things of scampi and Aunt Bessie's hash browns and carrot and swede!!

The space I had in my freezer is now taken up again! On the plus side I had a lovely lunch of 2 cinnamon buns, a cup of tea and a magnum mini!!!! Then I had to eat the rocky road slice to get rid of the evidence before the kids came in and went mental because I had not got them any goodies..... Don't think I will be eating much of the steak and kidney at tea time as I am mega full!!!!

Loving reading all the updates - and impressive Trixie!!

I went to Morrisons this morning as needed some veg for the pets (mostly 2 for £1), apart from that I only bought soya milk (had run out), half price kitchen towel (nearly run out, only bought 1 pack!!) and a TV guide (probably not essential!). I did look at buying something more exciting for dinner but resisted :D

Breakfast - egg and hm bread

Lunch - nothing, went to the gym - even forgot to take my tap water!

Dinner - more roast allotment potatoes, more cold Quorn Roast (nearly finished it!) and allotment peas.

Am still eating a daily slice of the hm apple and hazelnut tart I made last weekend.. Want to get on and make the lemon curd bakewell but I have to eat this first!

Got a major caffeine withdrawal headache as I've run out of coke and am trying to use up the 4 bottles of squash in the fridge first instead of buying more coke...

I got the Quorn roast for my son for his Xmas dinner (that was his turkey breast) and for other meals we heated it back up in the oven, but when doing so, put it in a casserole dish with a little boiling water, covered with foil and heated. Son complimented on how moist the Quorn was, probably the water helped steam it.
    Have you tried that Kirri??

Ooh no I've never tried doing that, I've never even reheated it - I always just cook it in the wrapper the first time then eat it cold, usually in sandwiches every day after that..

I only usually buy it on offer and Morrisons only ever seem to have it on offer in the run up to Christmas - I bought 3 this year! Had it for Christmas dinner also.
  • Kirri - I bought quinoa last year and really tried to like it but found that it had a weird taste that I just couldn't stomach! In the end I gave it to my sister and she didn't like it either.

I've not tried quinoa on its own, but I usually bung a bit in when I make a vegetable stew (often in a slow cooker!) as it's a great source of protein you don't even notice it's there.

Being a veggie should really be a much cheaper option, but I don't think it is. Or am I wrong??

When I see the prices of meat even whoopsies, I'm definitely pleased I'm veggie as it's a ridiculous price.

I have set an £80 p/m budget more so to keep spending in control really (I set it last year too but doubled it most months!!) - but I guess I just want to clear out all the old food first and almost start again weekly - I had a friend who literally could eat for fuel only, I am finding that dull though, already.. maybe because I'm craving 'fresh' foods and this week has been a bit stodgy.. think I will have a light pasta tomorrow and might treat myself to an aubergine or something!

I think I'd get very bored if I didn't add to my stocks at all, but I'm trying to make sure I use the stuff I've got, rather than only eating the new stuff I fancy eating. Otherwise the stuff either just fills up the cupboard, or gets wasted when it's gone even too far past it's date for me to use!

Lynsey - take a look at www.food.com for crockpot receipes. Althought it's an American site, they use their slow cookers much better than we do. They even roast potoatoes and do jackets in theirs. I'm thinking I might take mine camping as it's so convenient.

What do you pay when it's on offer in Morries. I get mine in A*da for £2, but would travel to a further Morries if it was a good price!

How is the Quorn roast? We've been eating more Quorn lately as it's been on offer (the fillets, pieces and mince) and really like it. Interested in trying the roast. Can anyone comment on how nice it is/what it tastes like etc?

I paid £2 also! I don't know where else sells it, Sainsbury's don't any more.

Am going to Asda tomorrow as hope the mince/pieces are still on offer for £1, will give me a bit of variety for next week!
