Recipe ideas from lots of well-known chefs, at The Happy Foodie (new website from Random House Publishing).

The apple cake with rum buttercream looks nice, I may try that combo (though not sure why they have extra egg yolks in the buttercream).

In to freezer - yet more self raising flour + some HM All in One Cake.
Out of freezer - bag of flour + HM Egg/Bacon Pie.
Dinner was Sweet Potato Wedges + Pasty + Brocolli, Carrots, Onion with a chunk of buttered GCJ's Easy Peasy Garlic Bread.
GCJ blog posted recipe today so I had a go at the Easy Peasy Garlic Bread - don't think it turned out - how it was meant. However we had a buttered chunk with dinner. We will have some more for lunch tomorrow. A really cheap recipe - next time I will add more than the 2 cloves of garlic. I didn't have Parsley so used Mixed Herbs. I already had milk on the turn so was half way there for the sour milk.

  • GCJ blog? I'm not sure where that is.

Florence - I must ask. I keep looking at your GC weekly record of spends and I'm confused. You're already on week 4 of September. I know I'm nosey but how come?

I have to admire how skilled you are with your budget. Very impressed indeed at what meals you produce with that. ;)

Ah, now that makes sense. ;)

Of course, Girl Called Jack, should have guessed. I've just started reading it recently. Must have a thorough look through her recipes. Thanks. :D

Nothing IN or OUT of the freezers but did use up some chocolate chips and opened another bag of flour into the flour bin. 7 year old grand daughter made some chocolate chip bars then took them home and sold a bundle of 4 for 10p - she has now got an extra 60p in her money box. :rotfl:

Shopping delivery today, quite a big order for me  but that will be the bulk of my shopping for September.. and mostly all basic essential ingredients for cooking/baking or things I need for recipes to use up other items, I was fairly strict..

Meals - mostly the same as the last two days..

Made bread and more bean burgers, some of each gone into freezer. Finished the pesto. Might try the same bean burger recipe with harissa next time, I have plenty of HG dried beans. I coated the burgers in polenta this time when shaping, instead of flour, and it worked quite well.
