Anyone see the Speccy this week? Apparently there is to be a protest on Tuesday evening against Eminem playing in Ward Park in August. I've tickets as I think it is an opportunity not to be missed. I also live very close to the park (although not close enough to get the free tickets )
What do you think about it? Will it be such an awful thing for Bangor?

Surely in such harsh economic times Bangor and it's residents should be welcoming everyone willing to spend a pound in the town ?

I would love to go and see him myself, but I fear I would look like a granda in with all the kids:o
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

There were no protests when announced Snow Patrol were playing...wonder why Eminem is getting the flack?? not a Bangor boy?? Would think Bangor residents would welcome the gig; seriously needs to rake in all investment it can, have you seen the state of the sea front all derelict buildings, its so sad to see it like that.

Eminem is a huge deal, surely no one can complain about what it'll do for the town. Yes there will be extra noise, traffic, etc, but as already mentioned, hows that any worse than Snow Patrol in previous years? The extra tourism will be a great thing!

By the way, how close do you have to live to the park to get free tickets?

EMINEM’S headline appearance at Bangor’s Ward Park this summer has triggered an angry backlash.

A campaign to keep the ‘Real Slim Shady’ from taking to the stage is gathering pace and will be taken to Bangor Town Hall next Tuesday.

And in a further twist his August 24th appearance will clash with this year’s Bangor Missionary Convention which celebrates its 75th anniversary just yards from the Tennent’s Vital set.

Campaigner Brian Ashworth, who claims to be representing scores of objectors, will urge North Down Borough Council to turn down Tennent’s Vital’s application for an entertainment licence.

He is urging others to turn up and show their objection at Bangor Town Hall this Tuesday night (7.30pm) where he will be granted a 10 minute deputation.

The Conlig man takes issue with the US rapper’s explicit lyrics which often carry parental warnings.

Previous posters have featured Eminem posing with a chainsaw and wearing a hockey mask.

Mr Ashworth claims the nature of his act breaches a CPVA council policy which protects the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

“His lyrics are riddled with foul language, four letter words and references to sex, drugs, violence, murder, suicide, guns and prostitution,” Mr Ashworth told the Spectator.

That's it then, lets cancel. How can we possibly allow 40,000 people to enjoy a concert over this celebration....

I'm tempted to go though; if it's that close to the Vital Set ;)

Oh that is enough to stop 40,000 enjoying a great night out then!

I bought tickets for my daughters to go and they and their friends are counting down the days.Isnt it typical in this country when theres a concert or anything that thousands of people want to see out of the woodwork comes a local god botherer to protest and claim to have "a number of supporters".These are the same people who tell you your local b an q can only open between 1pm and 6pm on a sunday. so if you dare to have a job and work all week then be grateful they allow you that privilege
counting down the time I got left.:beer:

This is whats wrong in our country. As soon as I heard the word protest it had to be one of the stick in the mud churches. Trying to get this cancelled for at most 200 people (if they would even get that). How much money will the Eminem concert bring to the town? I hope they get laughed out.
  • My daughter and her friends have tickets, but they actually don't hold out much hope of seeing Eminem as he's prone to cancelling gigs! So she has been told anyway! We'll wait and see..
