I have lurked on these boards for a while and gained some fantastic hints and tips, but hadn't felt the need to post until I read this thread :) I thought I'd share my experience of a Thornton's delivery. I ordered the end of season deal, and a couple of things that were BOGOF. The couriers came to deliver my order at 10.30 am. I didn't get home until about 5.30 pm. Which "safe" place had they chosen to leave the box that had "Thornton's" written all over it? The greenhouse. :rotfl: It was a warm day. To be fair, the customer services lady was very apologetic and re-sent out the order at no extra cost.
  • Haven't heard anything from Thorntons - not suprised.

OH was delighted with his stuff and even ate the melted stuff as well - he put into our cloakroom toilet and it went all hard - funny shaped chocolate but apparently still as delicious.

Big red box of dark chocolates went to OH brother and lasted less than 2 days! My mum & sister are fighting over the other!

Just annoyed it took two days but lots and lots of chocolates!

Surprised they make any money the way they have to send out orders twice for the price of one!

I have to say their Customer Service team don't normally quibble if there is any problem. I had a delivery before Christmas , year before last, and the courier put it on an outhouse at my parents and then popped a card through the letterbox to say the delivery was on top of the boiler. Yes, that's right, the boiler, which was on and by the time the box was retrieved had been heating it nicely for around 6.

The customer services rep was extremely helpful and despatched another order next day delivery with a note to say DO NOT PLACE ON TOP OF BOILER. Not sure what it says about the brainpower of the couriers they use though:)

sorry but I think that is hilarious!!!!!!!
  • I had a delivery from Thornton's last christmas and judging by the box, it had been stood on by an elephant. Naturally the choc boxes inside were damaged.

So I phoned, explained the choc boxes were damaged, meant for a gift! but everything else was ok, was told a replacement for the choc boxes would be sent.

I received the entire order again, even the stuff I had said wasn't damaged!

We're still eating them. More chocs than you could shake a stick at!

I can't complain about Thorntons either as when I ordered a hamper and it didn't arrive they sent another one and then the first one turned up a day later. I rang them to tell them and they told me to keep it and enjoy it!!. I gave some of it away as Christmas presents.
  • They also very kindly gave my DD an egg - at Easter we had a printed voucher for a free Egg from Thornton's and my DD being 15 lost hers, she went in to claim it and couldn't find it in her bag (not surprising! she carries the Eiffel Tower in there as well as Sydney Opera House) and the sales lady said, "no worries, luv, you HAD a voucher, I'll sort it this end" and gave her the egg!

    Very impressed. :)
  • When we lived in Thailand we had a large bar of dairy milk posted out to us monthly in a jiffy bag, chocolate doesn't taste the same over there as it's imported from Australia . By the time it arrived in the mail box and cleared customs it was well melted so we used to place the jiffy bag straight into the fridge and leave it there for a full 24 hours. The chocolate was perfectly fine to eat, just didn't look the same, but then again we were desperate after 2 years of Australian chocolate.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p
