I like TW because it is a walkable town with easy access to everything you may need on a day to day basis without having to rely on the car.

    Very true!

If it was me, I would be trying to get somewhere near The Pantiles. I miss Sunny Tunny!!

second the kings hill/west malling area. Kings Hill has Asda on the estate, Costa Coffee, Pizza takeaways, and West Malling has all the usual post office, Boots, etc.
  • Wow there are a lot of bitter or jealous people on this site. Tunbridge wells is a lovely a friendly place to live, yes there are less desirable areas but these are still not bad compared to most northern towns or areas of London, unless you live of course north of the river south of the park. Tunbridge wells is a great place to raise children, great shops, restaurants, parks, kids clubs, good theatre, cinema, in the summer we have great entertainment and music festivals in the pantiles, farmers markets, the benefits of the country yet only 45 mins by train to town and of course if you buy in the right place and commute from TW central then a seat is guaranteed.

Back to your question yes Rose Hill and the Mead are both great schools, bear in mind that because education is so important to the parents of the town and by virtue of having the 11+ everyone wants their kids to go to great school and pass both these independent schools have long waiting lists and you should get your kids name down 2 years in advance to be safe. The state school system is tricky everyone wants Claremont because of it amazing results and catchment. Unfortunately it's very competitive and the knock on result is the applicants to Rose Hill, the Mead and Holmwood House. If public schools aren't an option then be sure to aim for St James's or St Peters. Over the other side of town Bishops Down or St Johns. There are a few more but if you are familiar with the area then you will be aware that they are best avoided if education and socialisation are priority.

Best aim high at primary to avoid a costly eduction at 11.

Depending on your kids ages it is advisable to also get their names down for preschool at least a year in advance as these are highly competitive and the best very very oversubscribed with long waiting lists.

    Good luck

Hi, they aren't bitter and twisted people, they are trolls, so when you see someone who is arguing for the sake of it, that's what they are trying to do, to get a reaction out of someone.

Also I do like Tunbridge Wells alot, there it a lot going for it, but I think the person may have sorted out where they are going to live now as they posted in June last year.

All this negative talk of TW and nobody has mentioned the absolute worst thing about it - the god-awful traffic.

OP, please go there any time between 2pm and 7pm on a weekday if you are not familiar with the bottlenecks. I have lived there, it was too much for me.

If I were the OP and I wanted to live in this area I'd consider Westerham, Sevenoaks, Oxted. Tonbridge is very close, not quite as snooty/posh/nice? but I'd much rather live there. What exactly are you looking for in TW?

Saying that "it's cheap compared to London" made me spit out my coffee, it is unfortunately a given!
