Costs of Moving into FTB home

We have got our date sorted for the completion on our first ever owned house.

I realise I coan ask my solicitor this on Monday morning but what should I be expecting to pay out on the completion of everything. Deposit and solicitor fees are the obvious ones plus 1 month mortgage? Anything else?

    To the solicitor:
You paid, probably 10% deposit to your solicitor when you exchanged. At completion you pay the balance between that & whatever your mortgage company is funding.

Plus the balance of the solicitors' fees as set out in their completion statement.

    Other payments to consider:
Insurance - buildings (& contents if you go for that, you'd be silly not to)

Is there a telephone landline or do you want / need to get one installed?

The first mortgage payment isn't necessarily only one month, it may be more. For example, I exchanged mid-month. My first mortgage payment was 1.5 month's amount to cover the part month and the full month.

Do a basic assessment also of what is essential for your property. Do you need white goods, beds, sofas, curtains etc? You don't need to buy these new; look on freecycle or 2nd hand shops to manage your cashflow for the first few months. There may well be other expenses on the house once you're in, so don't blow all your budget in advance.
