Harry Ramsdens Poor Service

Took the family to Harry Ramsdens for lunch yesterday lunchtime. It was pretty busy and the staff seemed a bit rushed but given the price they charge it is only fair you completely get what you pay for which was not what i got when my order arrived even though it was correct, the quality was not good. The chips were either soggy or hard so virtually inedible.

I sent my place back to the kitchen and the replacement (which took nearly 15 minutes) was also soggy. I complained about this and asked how they soaked their potatoes and what temperature they were frying at and she refused to tell me!

Commercially-sensitive information. If word got out, all their compeptitors would do the same so they could match the soggy & hard offering!

we stopped going to harry ramsdens as we got fed up with greasy soggy chips and not very hot fish on several occasions. The prices are pretty high for fish and chips - disappointing.

Harry Ramsdens is rubbish, there are far better fish and chip restaurants around, usually small family owned places. Try one of those next time, think HR got too big and the quality suffered. I would never go there. Once was enough !

I don't know who they are owed by now but several years ago they were bought by the Granada chain that ran the motorway services ( now Moto ) and their quality went downhill. They have probably been sold on since then. If they cannot maintain the quality they should not be allowed to continue using the Harry Ramsdens brand name .

Agreed.

They have a name for great F&C but when I tried one of their outlets it took forever and was nothing special.

Are they a franchise operator.

It is a franchise now. We went to Scarborough recently and decided we would like fish and chips, it took them 20 minutes to serve us, you were given a number and had to wait your turn ! It was ridiculous, a sea front fish and chip shop where they don't have fish or chips already prepared ready to be served ! It's only a take away there, not a restaurant, most fish and chip shops have stuff ready to go don't they ? It was saturday tea time, the sun was shining, the place was heaving, did they think they were going to have a quiet evening ?!

the wife and i (i sound like the queen:D ) often go to scarborough just for a fish and chip supper, we go to wackers down the side of the old woolworths,they cook as you order,a lovely clean place and i have never been disappointed and im not a fish and chip lover (the wife is)
i would never use that upstart on the front

I've tried them a couple of times recently and didn't find the quality of food very good. It was acceptable but definitely not great, and no better than my local chippie who are loads cheaper. I think they lost their reputation for quality food a long time ago.

I used to look forward to going there when i was a kid, but now the quality is very poor. Soggy, tastless chips mostly and, for us northeners, a gravy that is too thin to cover your chips!
