And on the point of wasting time, that was not inculuded as part of the review, staff are allowed to browse internent at lunch time, he had such a pressured job he rarely took a break, just 10 mins at desk with a sandwich most days, sometimes no break at all. He just found that some days his head was like mush with complex work things and reading rubbish on net just gave him some a way of coping.0

He does not understand why he needed to look at these images, that is something that he has to get help from the doctor for
Sometimes men don't need a reason and just want to. He may be depressed but I don't think using that as an excuse to look at naughty pictures is gonna fly.0 -
I really don't need any sarky replies thanks - of course he knows why he looks a pictures - he is a normal bloke. Whay he does not understand is how he could be in such a state of mind that he would do it at work. It is obvious from what the consultant said that this sort of out-of-character behaviour is a symptom of severe depression, I just think those mitigating circumstances have not been taken into account. I understand that depression is classed as a disability, so surely some recognition that he was not behaving rationally should be considered?0

Contact the trade union regional office as a matter of urgency, request a full time officer contacts your other half to discuss best way forward and assist with appeal statement.
Don't delay as there will be time factors to take into account.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
The trouble is, if he was that severely depressed, he'd be unlikely to be able to function at work, particularly as he hasn't been receiving any treatment for it.0

Depression as you say is a very real and often debilitating illness but in all honesty I don't get why it would cause someone to look at naked women far less at work. If his employer knew of his depresssion then they of course should take account of this with work load etc but it seems they were unaware.
Personally I think that this is totally unaccepatable at work and am not surprised that he was dismissed for looking at !!!!!!.
As an aside not all normal blokes feel the need to look at !!!!!! and definitely not at work.
I do hope though that he gets proper medical help for his depression.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Torry Quine and I rarely agree on things sex related, but in this case we do - to look at !!!!!! in the workplace is wholly unacceptable irrespective of the reason. To suggest that depression could make someone do such a thing is disrespectful to all those who have the condition.
Depression can make people act irrationally, but this would show itself up in so many other ways also - if he was otherwise capable of doing his job, I can't see how he can argue that he was acting in a way which was so out of character.
SarEl, there was nothing sarcastic in my reply. I am aghast that someone would try to use mental illness as mitigation for this.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I'm being treated for depression at the moment, and believe me all sex drive goes out of the window.0 -

That is my understanding that with severe depression sex is the last thing you are thinking about.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

The Occ Health consultant was quite clear in her report that my OH's behaviour was consistent with someone suffering severe depression, this is not something I am just making up. she has advised he needs medical treatment immediately as his depression is so bad - including bereavment councelling, to deal with the unresolved issues around his mother's death. I think his employers sent him to Harley St to prove he was fit, whereas the report actually says otherwise. I had no idea how terrible he felt, and he says the only way he managed to actually do his work, or live with me, was to 'compmentalise' his life - on the surface he looked fine but inside he felt totally dead. If nothing else this all happening means he can get some releif from how he has been feeling for so long.
whilst I totally agree that use of !!!!!! in the workplace is totally unacceptable, the point I am trying (and obviously failing to make) is that the penalty handed out in this case is not consistent with many similay cases the Union rep (who specialises in this type of case, it happens quite a lot it seems) has dealt with before, whe much worse behaviour has recieved much lesser penalties.0
