This wireless mouse & keyboard has ordinary batteries in, and they last 5 weeks. Can I change to re-chargeables , would that be cheaper in the long run?

What keyboard & Mouse? if its Logitec, yes, and most of them.0

Yes, rechargeables would be cheaper in the long run - but check first that the reduced voltage of about 1.2V per battery (rather than about 1.6V when new for disposables) still enables the keyboard and mousie to work. (They should...)
Go for the higher capacity batteries (around 2900 mAh if you want AA size), if you can afford them. Someone on this board (I forget who) recommends 7DayShop and Ansmann batteries; I got some a year ago and have been quite happy with them.0 -
Ok thanks for this - I didn't know they were reduced voltage. I was looking at the wee kits with batts+charger in Tescos - suppose they aren't really great ?0

i wouldn't worry about the reduced voltage - I haven't found a device yet that wont work with rechargeables (although I believe some older cameras can be a bit sensitive).0 -
What would definitely be cheaper in the long run would be to use hardwired mouse and keyboard:idea:0

Is that easy to do? I would really prefer that as this thing drives me insane(er). OH says there is no fitting for it, where does it plug in? TY x0

All computers will have either USB ports and/or PS2 connections to fit the keyboard and mouse
There MUST be connectors already fitted to the computer to be able to use what you have now:idea:0 -
If you are using rechargeables for a wireless mouse and keyboard then you need the Eneloop/Hybrio type which have a longer shelf life. It's no good having high capacity batteries which self discharge over a few weeks.
I bought quite a few 7 Day Shop own brands of this type last time I refreshed my stock of rechargables and have had no problems with them - my cheapy Trust wireless desktop set has been running for months on the ones in it now...
AA - http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_3&products_id=107341 at ~ £1 per cell you really can't go wrong.0 -
