Eng wood floor - where to buy?

Options
Helllllppppppp.... I am in the process of doing a few jobs on my new house and the next stage is to buy the engineered wooden flooring. I see ones I like on the internet then get a sample and it looks nothing like it does online. So where would you recommend I go to buy it if trying to view it first??? Been to Wickes (our local one is small so v little choice), b&q, floors to go and not liked any!!! I just want an oiled oak natural looking floor like the solid wood, nothing fancy for a reasonable amount <£40/m2. Any ideas???

Thanks a million.

Which floor did you buy? I want a plank style, natural oak, oiled. The only one I saw at our local floors2go was £52/m2, too costly for my budget.

    Thanks for the reply.

I recently got some real wood flooring from http://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/ but they also do engineered, they were very helpful on the phone and they send out free samples, I found their samples were pretty similar to what was online but you will have to judge for yourself. Delivery was quick and effecient too. I am not in anyway connected with them tho!

This is who I got my samples from along with flooring supplies. Both been really helpful but I just can't seem to get the choice right!

Try Big Tree Wooden Products if near Glasgow or Newcastle. Be very careful that you actually get something decent.

There is also McKay flooring in Glasgow but I fell out with the salesman there.

We started looking a year ago and prices have shot up and we ended up paying £31m2 (ex vat) for the new build. I was expecting to pay around £25m2 and you can still buy stuff at that price.

But the main thing is find someone you like dealing with this is a minefield an at the end of the day saving a couple of quid now might cost ou a whole floor later on.

    Do your homework!!

Is it not right because they don't go with your walls/furniture? Or are you looking at them at only one time of day? When I first got my sample my OH didn't like it at all, it was only when we put it ON the floor near to the doors/walls etc that he actually said it looked nice! Or is it because the Engineered stuff looks too perfect (not really sure thats the right way to put it but can't think of any other!), thats why we ended up with the solid wood.

Very good point I drove my supplier nuts rejecting stuff that wasn't rustic (knotty) enough.

If it is too perfect the first ding will drive you mad because it will flash at you.

Sadly, it was a customers floor. I don't know the price, they sourced it, but it wasn't that dear. It's a medium oak, and does look good.

I just want a natural looking solid wood apperance and I can't seem to find it, I prefer solid wood, but everyone keeps telling me that eng wood is the best way forward, arrrgghhh so confusing!

Thanks all for the tips on where to buy, will check them out tomorrow.
