Grumbler, this just shows you the amount of people getting them and this backs up the theory that its a accident claim managment company on a large fishing expedition for new business.

Times the amount polled here by the amount actualy sent out via this firm and it soon adds up to a big bill.

Having spoke with numerous Marketing firms this is not the case they do not just go in and buy a pay n go sim card and send these out its done via a Marketing Firm and yes it is very likely to be a pay n go sim card but the fact that the message is the same with different amounts of compo and only coming from approx 5-8 numbers does suggest its either one or two Companies touting for business.

I'd be surprised if a marketing company is involved in this.

Sending automated text messages is quite simple and I have the hardware/software here to do it myself: mobile phone, bluetooth dongle and Microsoft's free SMS Sender application.

Do you really think scammers would spend money and pay a third-party to do what they can easily do themselves?

It does not look like scammers, there is little gain for them here if you had received a text with the following info in it : either Our records show or you have still not claimed the compensation you are due for the accident you had. To claim then pls reply ClAIM / INFO.

What possible gain is there for a scammer here ?

And again I will reliterate the amount sent is huge and scammers do not spend that much money on sending out things like this and most certainly would not continue to send to some people countless times, a few maybe but nearer side of 150, I very much doubt it as do the marketing companys I have spoke with whom state it is a fishing expedition by a large accident claim company or company's !

I suspect the scam probably goes like this: you send a message back containing the word CLAIM or INFO. A while later you receive a phone call, during which you're told you have a case and are asked to pay a deposit. Of course they say you'll get it back, but... well.

A short text message may take about five seconds to send. Ten phones could easily send out over 170,000 messages a day.

Why don't you ask one of your special inside contacts which large accident claim company is allegedly sending out these messages? Or use your special inside contacts to determine which marketing company is sending them?

these are mass marketed cold calls sent by somebody collecting marketing leads.
if you give a positive response your number is sold on to an ambulance chaser for example.

What clever answers you give as it is going to be all black and white like you seem to think.

1: Quote you text back and get a call, well 150 messages nearly and I receive not one single call, your theory gone out of the window then !
2: as I have stated and stated again its not some mickey mouse idiot behind a pc in flat in the suburbs this is a profesional company sending these out, how I know is from research to date and various conversations with as you put it special inside contacts.
3: my so called special inside contacts can and are only working within the law as am I.

To sum up for you, if you have nothing constructive to say then say nothing at all, whilst this issue may not affect you personaly I am sure there are many others out there that are fed up with these people hounding them no end.
