On the subject of misprice discussions

I just had extreemly agressive questining from a store manager over some small r&r (less than £10) including asked for my name and address and post code - cs looked up the postcode on her terminal while I was talking to the manager.

I guess the manager has some performance measure on the value or number of R & R's the store has and I'd guess today was the last day of the period, however no excuse for the level of agression - all just body language, tone and invading my space but agressive like a drunk bloke in a pub.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what they are alowed to do in terms of demanding names and addresses - the policy doesnt say provided you give us your name and address.

They dont need to know anytrhing about me other than I have the means to pay to take money off me at the till - in this case to over charge me, so can they reasonable demand it, can I reasonably refuse and once they have it what are they alowed to do with that information?

Also does anyone know in practice what they actually do with the information?

    Ony answers welcome

following advice given to me by consumer direct, apparently a company has the right to ask for whatever detail they want if you are using the companies policy. What information you decide to give however is entirely up to you.

let us know how you get on chartreuse, Ive tried this on a small value item and th CSA would not have none of it syaing that I'd have to have all the receipt:(...I was going to swop the item and didn't want the money back.hope you have better luck.
Well I tried it out at my nearest Extra today. Manager said he'd need the whole receipt, but I persisted (politely) and eventually he relented. £99.97 gift card :D

It was the only high point of the trip. Not an R&R to be found in the store: the 3 OOD Yellow SELS we found were scanning at the same price, the xbox/soccer bundle for £279.9(7 or 9, I forget) rang up at £279.94 (fortunately I had SWMBO primed to yell "you're not spending three hundred quid on a game!") and the beef joints with "buy one get £5 off" that were supposed to be reduced to clear were on sale at full price (despite the display until being yesterday).

This last has me worried - are they paying so much attention to preventing sweet R&Rs that they're accidentally selling old food?

No, I don't know why they need it, nor what they do with it. But it might be worthwhile asking the Tesco Data Controller what happens to this information. The Data Controller could well find it easier to put a stop to names and address being collected, rather than to have to control the information in the way required under the DPA.

My guess is that it is just a Tesco bully-boy tactic to try and put people off asking for refunds. Perhaps we should play them at their own game and write to the Data Controller every time a CS/manager requires this information from us.

just been barred from my local store after an r+r . What are my options to find out why and any recourse?

A little more detail please. What was said and who said you were barred?

Do you really want to shop there again anyway?

My understanding is that they can bar anyone they want without giving a reason and thats all there is to say on the subject. However, in practice you would expect them to explain clearly what it was that they thought you had done and give you a chance to explain yourself.

In some cases people just go back to the store a few weeks later without incident. Assuming there was no major confrontation at customer service when you were "barred" I would be inclined to stay away for a bit and then wander in normally and see what happens - but I wouldn't go with anyone else just in casy you get ejected - if you do go quietly and graciously and find somewhere else to shop.

Just write to "the data controler" at tesco HO?

I'm game. You seem to know how this all works - perhaps you could draft a standard note for us all to send.

As a single mother I'm a bit wary of giving out my address to agressive supermarket managers and if I had thought of it I would have made a joke of him going the wrong way about getting my number...

Maybe i am not seeing the bigger picture here  but i fail to see what relevance this post has, this is an EPH issue why not leave it there? why take it over here? unless of course to cause mayhem.

    leadhead why

    Certainly not to cause mayhem.

Hollis cant post on EPH now, and I choose notto(as yet).

Although I did notice you also thanking wlfc1 for his condemnation of Hollis's post on EPH.

Has he sent you over to stir it up on here.

There appears to be differeing rules.

It appears anyone can come on here from EPH, and say anything they want, spam members, brag about misprices they have over there, criticise on EPH to the hilt, but as soon as anyone stands up to wlfc1, they either get ignored, or in Hollis's case banned.

Why...................there was no offensive remark...except the remark that kicked it all off, made by wlfc1 himself.......

"Is it me.or is the discussion on MSE losing the plot".......

Is it only wlfc1 thats allowed to be "antagonistic" (as he called Hollis).....and everyone else gets banned.

Last night was an excellent night until Constantine stepped in....but prior to that, there was healthy discussion.

So where does wlfc1 get his info from.....and why make the remark, knowing it will be picked up on.

Good job I created a few identities, cos I bound to get banned at my first post.

Everyone just seems to agree with wlfc1......when his posts are just goading.

It concerns this thread, as it was a direct attack on the thread and the posters last night.

But obviously, it looks from your post that you can't (or don't want to) see that.
    Couponing....."every little hurts"

Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

Doh! That's what we should have done!:o
  • Can anyone confirm what the Xbox bundles with either Gears of war or Call of duty are scanning at please? Ive read on the mis-price thread they seem to be going through at £279.99? Is this right considering their website has it more expensive than this. Also in my store the SEL label has the packs at £279.97.

Would it even be possible to get a mis-price for a difference of 2 pence?
