If you go to Sainsburys and get overcharged, then CS will give you the difference back but nobody seems to be rushing to Trading Standards to complain every time, AFAIK. Tesco, at the moment, give you your money back and the product but if they change the policy then it is in line with Sainsburys for example (and even a little better by giving double the difference)
and yet people are talking about still telling Trading Standards about the overcharges at Tesco. Surely they have covered themselves by giving back, just like Sainsburys, the amount they have overcharged you. So where is this difference between the rumoured new Tesco policy and the existing one in Sainsburys which people don't seem to complain about to TS
I would have thought a company only has to compensate you for the overcharge, and if they do then TS wouldn't be able to do anything. Tesco are still going to be compensating you, just not quite as magnanimously as before admittedly!
Well...
Firstly, whether or not a shop compensates you for the overcharge it is *still* a criminal offence (by the shop). TS will be very interested.
Secondly, the reason you don't see the same issues with the other supermarkets is because they do not have the same level of overcharging problems Tescos do.
An example...I have shopped in all the supermarkets for a decade. During that time I have always checked my receipt. During that time I have found the following...
Asda - Overcharged around once every 6 months.
Sainsbury's - Overcharged around once every 2-3 months
Tesco's - (Up until 6 months ago) Overcharged on an average of 50%+ of my shopping trips. So every other time I visit I need to queue at the CS desk (this was way before any misprice thread existed - or even these forums for that matter!). In the last 6 months I have noticed a positive change - but that is in response to the work done by people on this thread.
So, you see, people are harsher on Tesco's because Tesco's have been illegally profiteering from them for many years - but still have the gall to advertise in such a way as to encourage you not to question their pricing integrity. They have had at least a decade to sort the problems out but have failed to do so *as long as they were making a profit from it*. Once this thread became popular, overcharging customers became less profitable and Tesco's are finally starting to correct their prices. But only with the help of this thread.
Hope that helps you understand why some of us may wish to see Tesco's have a BIG PR and legal problem if they remove the r&r policy.0 -

Ok...Here we go.....
Lets forget about the fact that Tesco "may be" changing their policy, as with respect I cant be bothered to explain or answer this, based on hypotheticals.
Lets talk about the policy as it is
Tesco have a policy which basically says
In the unlikely event we overcharge you(to cut it short) we will refund you your money and you retain the goods.
Tesco (I believe) were forced into this by TS due to their constant overcharging.
Tescos overcharge a lot more than the other stores due to their everchanging offers and aggresive marketing.
A lot of users would like to see Tesco reported everytime an overcharge appears.........as possibly 90% of people being overcharged....dont realise.....so Tescos get away with it.......helping their massive profits.
Tescos although they have this policy clearly displayed on their website, on a big blue board in their stores and other instore locations, often fail to deliver and invent various stories to avoid this.
Some managers and CS staff are very aggressive towards anyone daring to point out this policy.
This is when the majority of people call for TS.....as Tescos are breaking their own rules, which were put in force to avoid the wrath of TS.
You dont here many threats of TS to the other stores because they dont advocate a policy like Tescos then renaig on it.
Offering the difference doest make it ok.......just think of the thousands each week that dont realise and get overcharged.
We worked out over millions of Tescos profit may be down to simple overcharges.Couponing....."every little hurts"

faergus wrote:Hi I'm just looking for some advice about a misprice I thought I had today. I saw last weeks game of the week poster for Lego Star Wars II on the PS2 on display today. The price on the poster was for a couple of pounds less than the price on the SEL. I bought the game (it scanned at SEL price) along with some groceries and wandered back out to the car and then back to CS.

Does the tiny writing at the bottom of the poster 'get them out of it'. Should I have bothered to phone Head Office? I didn't want to raise my profile over this one item so just walked away from it really.
Hope the OP doesn't mind my heavy edit above, but it would be huge to quote all this - It's an overcharge and you've right, the date does not get them out of it.
However, as you said in the original post, you were not getting anywhere in store.
I personally would have kept the game (refunding it means it's gone for ever), gone outside and called HO and explained your side there and then - at least you've had a chance of an R&R. If you get no joy with the first call, try again in the morning. If you still get no joy, you can always take the game back for a full refund.
BUT - if it's not sealed, ask for a sealed copy or make sure you get them to write SOLD UNSEALED on the receipt as I've read stories of CS being difficult with unsealed games. And again, if it's unsealed, check the game is actually in there!!!!"Life was easier when I didn't have a clue"0 -
