Barclaycard DD and online access.

Was not to keen on the idea of setting up a DD but Saturday Morning I decided to go ahead and set it up for my Platinum. I logged in online and set up a Direct Debit for Full Payment each month.

Have some questions regarding the time it takes for it to kick in. I have read in other posts that it can take weeks, but I assume that only for those that are not registered or view there transactions on a paper statement.

The website did have a disclaimer stating to pay bills in the usual way until your next statement acknowledges that the DD has been set up.

However after registering online it said that the Direct Debit will be set up within 7 days and that I will no longer receive payment alerts.

Whenever I now view my account details "Pay Your Card Bill Summary Box" states:

Your Direct Debit Setup (There is a tick)
Full Amount - 315 (Full Balance from last statement)
Date - (No date showing)
Account - Bank details of account with the DD

So I am guessing its likely my DD will be operational before a new statement arrives. Just wondering how I know for sure? Will a date be added to the date section? Or will they contact me via email to confirm setup?

When you get your statement it will say if the payment is being made by direct debit. If it doesn't you need to make your payment another way until the direct debit is set up. It will probably depend on when your statement is generated rather than when the payment is due as to whether it's set up in time. Hope this helps.

I am in a similar situation.

I also set up an SMS alert on Barclaycard online banking to tell me when my statement is ready.

When I view my account details "Pay Your Card Bill Summary Box" states:

Your Direct Debit Setup (There is a tick)
Full Amount - 315 (Full Balance from last statement)
    Due Date - (date showing)
Account - Bank details of account with the DD

I checked my Barclays online banking, and select the bank account that I chose to set up the direct debit. My bank account shows a direct debit set up. Go check it out.

When did you open the credit card? If you opened it this month, your first payment should be August. Mine was opened in May, first payment due in July.

    Hope that helps.

I set up a standing order with my online bank. I have coplete control over it and I know when the money leaves for barclaycard. Checked my barclaycard account on line the next day and the payment was shown.

You should make manual payments until it says on your statment DD amount is being taken.

Most if not all banks will advise you to do this even if it does not state it online.
  • Thanks all for clarifying, I guess the way it always works is that the DD may be registered with bank but BarclayCard don't collect from it until the end of the next statement period from which the DD was set up. Does this mean with my latest Barclaycard Gold statement generated on Wednesday (June Statement), I could effectively set up a DD for full payment and that will not become active until August (end of July Statement)? I would like to set a DD on that and I cant pay the bill in full for next due date, but will be paid in full in August which would be in time for the DD?

After checking your Barclays online banking, did the DD show up on your bank account?

Not registered at the bank yet. Was applied for on Saturday and today is the 1st working day since
  • End of the working day and now my Barclaycard account has "07 August 2011" noted as date for my DD to come out. Little surprised by the date though. Firstly I had expected it to come out on the due date.

It still is distracting when it states

Your next payment 315.87 - Payment is due on 7th August 2011

In reality payment of 315.87 is due to be paid by 13th July 2011

Also 7th August 2011 is on a Sunday, I get payed on the 5th of August. Also concerned that the date is wrong and they will debit on the 7th July, the day before I am paid and have the funds.

I think Barclaycard will take the DD 3-4 days before the due date to meet the due date. :s

Thats fine, and probably better than coming out on due date. I have heard that this generates unpaid notices as an error for some costumers. I just hope however it is the date mentioned. Will pay the current balance manual by the due date in July.

I should make the DD by the skin of my teeth. Get paid on Friday the 5th of August, and to my knowledge with Barclays, DD due out over the weekend or sometimes Monday are taking out of the Barclays account at close of Fridays working day.

Luckily paid every 4 weeks so the date goes down each month so meeting the DD will be no problem.

Can't wait until I pay of my Barclaycard Gold and set up a DD for it too, so I am at the point I dont even need to check my statements every 5 minutes..

Hard not to be anxious when so close to clearing debts. Can be probably just as hard on your mental health as when you are fearful about not clearing a debt.:rotfl:
