If you want a straight copy of the DVD then you can use DVDDecrypter and DVD Shrink both are free, they wont copy anything with Sony ARccOS copy protection though. They can copy a DVD in 30-40 mins.

Many thanks for the help so far.

    Another perhaps thikky question....

I ended up trying dvdfab. Seems good so far. It will copy a 2hr dvd to the hard drive in 18 mins, so pretty fast.

My only issue, is there seems no fast way to actually play the file.

It's kept in a file called dvdfab. I have to double click on that then click main movie, then the name of the film (lost in space for example), then video TS, then on vts01-1 to play the film. This is a right palava.

Is there any way I can just have an icon / file name of the film, click on that and it plays??

Just use VLC or Media Player Classic to navigate to the film folder. You can take the folder out of the DVDFab folder in order to make the path shorter.

    Thanks,

I'm pretty thick at this. Which folder would I remove?
The folder that actually seems to make the film play is vts01-1.
I took that out earlier to my videos, renamed it to lost in space, but it only played 30 mins of the film. When I double click it (leaving it where it was) it plays the whole film. My brain hurts....:D

VLC and/or MPC will play the whole film from the directory before you reach vts01.

Just select Play from Folder option and then navigate to the folder.

Obviously if you cut that folder to a more convenient position there will be less steps.
VLC has 'Open Folder' or 'Open Disc' . MPC; 'Open DVD' or Open Directory'. Check which one works for playing the DVD Folder.

VLC is definitely the tool to have to play movies.
