Hi Guys,

I'm after a free dvd ripper that will rip to the pc faster than real time and preferably does not break it into sections, so I can just click on the dvd icon and it will just play it right through.

Many thanks in advance..........

In my experience all these programs rip a DVD at pretty much the same speed.

It all depends on your CPU.

    Thanks bob,

But do they rip real time or faster?

Not ripped one for a while, but with a Q6600 quad core CPU, I think it wasn't much faster than real tine

Depends on the speed of your DVD drive to read it, and the speed of the CPU to encode it. The quality depends largely on the settings, but 700mb is an approx. size for good quality rip of a DVD movie at standard definition.

A lossless rip isn't going to be instant. I think Russ got a bit confused!

I was being lazy in my speech as I was in a hurry - I meant lossless as in a 'raw' rip with no encoding, which would take as long as it takes for the DVD takes to write to the hard drive and would also take up as much space as the full DVD. The most obvious way (keeping the DVD menu intact) would be an ISO, and mount it in something like MagicISO, Daemon Tools, etc

There are also lossless encodings, which would also be CPU intensive and larger files than 'lossy' encodings. Lossless just means you don't lose any quality, but since it usually describes an encoding method then as I said I was being lazy to describe raw that way.
