Same with me. Around the same time period too.

I am with the Co-operative Bank and have TWO cashminder accounts, which are the most basic accts they offer.

Some have mentioned that it might depend on whether the bank with which your account is held was one of your creditors.

Santander was one of my creditors for a store card I had, but they let me open the account pre BR, and as I said earlier, they let me keep my account open after BR was awarded.

your one of the lucky few then....I lost my account over 4yrs ago refused to give me another after discharge either..stayed with the co-op for a bit then managed to get a full account with o/d from natwest

it all depends as I said on the OR the bank etc...most are very anti-br the odd one or two may not its no consistency so what one gets isnt always a chance someone else will

Yes, i've been very lucky indeed.

I did speak to my branch (over the phone as I couldn't get into branch) and they stated that even if by some miracle I got to keep my account open, it would be controlled by the bankruptcy dept - meaning that you can only access money from your account through the branch and during business hours.

well i got my certificate in the post today and enclosed was a letter saying as long as the bank dont object and the balance remains below £1000 (i wish i had the ability to have that much in there!!) then they have no objections to it remaining open. ill give the bank a ring (RBS) later today or tomorrow and ill see what they have to say.

Good luck Gilly, let us know how you get on! I'd be interested in hearing what other banks are saying as this seems to be a grey area.

Is your basic account set up yet? It would be worth moving any funds you might have into the basic account just in case they can't give you a definitive answer and they close the account sooner than expected.

As I have previously said, I was told my account would be frozen within 24 hours, so I panicked and opened a managed account with Think Banking, rather than wait and see what would happen with A & L.
Although my monthly wage is small, I couldn't risk losing a full month's wage to a frozen account!

It really does seem to vary from bank to bank and from branch to branch. Some will quote “bank policy” and tell you to get lost, others are fine.
It’s usually best to let the branch manager know that you’re now bankrupt – otherwise you might find your account suddenly frozen, which isn’t good news if you’ve just been paid and it’s the weekend and the cash machine eats your card! Make sure there’s not much in the account before you tell them, though, just in case they immediately freeze it!

i jut called them on friday or saturday so it isnt set up yet but i have money set aside incase it does get closed unexpectidly.

was thinking it might be better to wait till i have my new account details and card through for my co-op one and then call them incase my call speeds up the process iygwim?

Why does the balance have to remain below £1000?
